PICC LINE CATHETER FOR SYSTEMIC SCLEROSIS

Hello everyone, I have a question and a personal situation to share. I have been diagnosed with systemic sclerosis and have been undergoing treatment with various medications. Recently, my doctors planned to prescribe intravenous cyclophosphamide and methylprednisolone to help manage my condition. However, due to the vasculitis affecting my veins, medical professionals are facing challenges accessing my veins for the required treatments. Even anesthesia attempts have been unsuccessful.

As a possible solution, one of the doctors suggested using a PICC line catheter. Unfortunately, this type of catheter is not available in Nepal, so I would need to import it from another country. The cost of approximately Nepali Rs 100,000 is beyond my financial means.

I'm seeking advice and assistance on how I can find help in this matter. The PICC line catheter is crucial for my treatment, and without it, I am facing delays and difficulties in getting the care I need.

Additionally, if anyone has experience using a PICC line catheter, I would greatly appreciate hearing about your experience.

I have the same condition and problem with my veins so I had a Picc line installed dec to Jan. they cannot stay in beyond 12 weeks and need weekly sterilised and flushing by a nurse to stay sanitised. I needed it for regular blood samples. Hurts a little but you get used to it

Hi there. Same issues with access but not with financial problems. We are very lucky here.

I had picc lines for about 9 years, the longest one was in was 2 1/2 years before replaced. It does need weekly attention from district nurse to be flushed if not used. I think the line that wad mentioned before is a midline and that can only stay in for limited time but picc a lot longer. It will certainly make treatment a lot easier. Good luck.
