I've recently been told I have arthritis in my left foot. Possible to do with the raynaurds. As I have cold feet all the time.

Thanks Lb

Hi there, you will be pleased to know that the arthritis in your foot is not related to the fact that they are cold. There are two types of arthritis. Inflammatory arthritis, where the immune system attacks the lining of the joints and causing swelling, redness and heat, which over time if not treated can lead to damage to the joints, bones and surrounding tissues. Inflammatory arthritis can be associated with scleroderma/lupus, or occur in its own right (e.g. Rheumatoid Arthritis)

Or commonly osteoarthritis, which is the normal wear and tear that we all get, especially for those who have been sports people, or do manual jobs or walk/stand a lot. Osteoarthritis can cause localised swelling and pain around the joint, but usually doesn't show the dramatic swelling of an inflamed joint caused by an inflammatory condition.

All my best

Thank u Lucyjean. I believe its inflammatory arthritis as my big toe and little toes are all painful and swollen. My mum suffers with arthritis and my dad all so!

Thank u for ur quick reply

I have scleroderma and have had surgery on my foot. It's not related to the raynauds though.

I have osteoarthritis on the top of my foot as well as Raynauld's. They are not related. I had an old injury that did not heal correctly. I would suggest orthotics for your shoes. I had cortisone shots but they were, after a while, ineffective. I consulted a surgeon and clearly surgery is to be avoided. He would have to break several bones in my foot and the surgery might not work. Plus, you have to be non-

weight bearing for 3 months. I have been going to acupuncture and it has helped. Good luck!
