Low blood pressure

Hello all - hope you are all doing well? Quick question; has anyone with Scleroderma and/or Raynaud's suffering with low blood pressure? Is there a link meds prescribed and low blood pressure? And if you have what's the quickest (and tastiest!) way of getting salt in a diet?! Everything is so healthy and low in salt! Thanks!

I have low blood pressure which rulues out meds for high bp which could help.

I use salt quite happily. BUT it doesn't made a hapenny difference to BP

My Raynaud's has worsened over the lasr winder, and I'm thinking of asking if I can give it a cautius try. I'd have a friend around to check on me.

You'd have to check your medications' information leaflets in the boxes to see about low BP being caused by them. I have low BP, keeping hydrated helps keep your blood volume up (and therefore increases BP). If you want salt in your diet add it to your cooking! :) have you measured your BP or are you assuming that's what's wrong based on light headedness? (Worth checking you've reached the right conclusion before you try to rectify - could be blood sugar levels or something else). Good luck :)

Hi there, you don't say what meds you are on for your condition, but many of the meds used for Raynauds will drop your blood pressure causing headaches, dizziness and general fatigue. Things like Nifedipine for example, or any of those Beta Blocker type drugs.

I think I would be checking that before I put excessive salt in my diet and stressed my kidneys.

Have you talked to your Doctor about whether this is normal for you, or related to your meds? I would talk to someone before making any radical changes.

All my best

Thanks all - I'm between consultant appointments but have had the BP monitored by a nurse. GP just seemed a bit baffled having ruled out other stuff, so I think I was just an it impatient and curious whilst waiting until my next hospital visit. Thanks for the replies and thoughts 😄

You know, there's a condition called POTS (postural ortheostatic tachycardia syndrome) that people with EDS (ehlers danlos syndrome) suffer (I've both) that causes light headedness on standing as the blood pools in the legs - they might have some coping mechanisms or better insight into managing low BP on their forum? My BP is naturally around 100/70-90/60 sort of range, but I don't have much of a problem with it except occasionally. Just a thought :) they'll all be pros!

Sorry The_Bear, just seen your reply. Thanks. Useful and interesting!!

My BP was 90/60 when tried Nifed i was all over the place ground was moving to meet me along with walls more akin to being on a sailing boat in a gale force 12!

there are things to low BP than salt im never one for using it on anything as in many things anyway but can be things like heart not pushing blood round so well mine slow and larger which was what they was worried about while back but is ok? just i did lots of hard sports like endurance cycling

I also have low BP, however, it went up a little after my lung doctor discontinued my use of the Nifedepine back in 2012. I still stay on the low BP side, but don't have dizziness or weakness from it. I do rather well also with staying hydrated and adding a potassium supplement to my vitamin regimen. I hope and pray that you will be strong and the low BP doesn't impact your functioning. God bless you.
