Cold feet ☃️

I am looking for advice about socks ! I can not seem to keep my feet warm, my toes are not so sore at the moment but they do feel like blocks of ice. I am wearing m&s thermal socks with furry slippers but its not working . Are there any other soft thermal socks that are warmer or any other ideas of how to warm feet?

When you're indoors, couldn't you use a hot water bottle? I couldn't be without mine lol!! Also look into 'thinsulate' they do gloves, and am pretty sure they used to make socks also.

You don't tell us what treatment you are getting from your doctor so it's hard to advise you. Do you have an electric over blanket.

I have sjogrens with other problems added in , i take plaquenil and ive had one course of rituximab. I haven't mentioned this problem to the rheumy yet.

I use the hand/toe warmer packets in the toe of my shoes whenever I have cold feet. It seems to help me feel warmer all over.

They make toe warmers with adhesive that dont bunch up or slip around inside your shoe, but the regular kind work fine, and are easy to switch over to my slippers, as the heat will last up to 8 hours. If I am going to be outside in cold temps for extended periods, I will splurge on the warmers that cover the entire sole of the shoe, but they are more expensive. I have a couple pair of shoes/boots with a wider toe so they aren't too tight when I use the warmers.

I also buy them in bulk online for the winter months and to get a better price. Socks don't make much of a difference for me because my feet do not generate much heat to retain in the first place.

Hi WV, I saw electric shoe insoles which cost around $100.00. Little more than I'm comfortable paying but I've bought battery operated socks to wear outside for only $20.00. Other than that, I'd say try electric blanket at night.

I am not to bad in bed, its during the day for some reason is the worst. I have never seen battery operated socks I will try the Christmas market!

What site do you buy them from plz

A few years ago a brilliant podiatrist gave me a bunch of lambs wool off a roll and showed me how to put it into the end of my socks before putting my foot inside the socks. It forms a cosy blanket in and around the toes and I've never looked back although I'm running out of wool/fleece now. These toe cosies sit well in any show as they mould around your toes taking up no extra space and it cost me nothing as he was on NHS then. Now sadly been replaced by less good people so does private work elsewhere these days. X

It sounds like you could get an industry going making toe cosies- such a great name!!

in reply toweathervane

The main thing is that these soft lambs wool toe cosies work miraculously Weathervane! But you do have to remember not to wash your socks with it still inside or it shrinks into wee lumps of hard felted wool. X

I use mountaineering 'sleep socks' they are mini down sleeping bags for your feet. Various brands make them I've some cheaper synthetic one's by nanok but rab & PhD make posh ones. They really keep my feet toasty.

I have looked at something similar but i wasnt sure if they would work well, a friend is taking me to town so I will check it out . Thanks

Remember though to put them on when feet are hot as if you insulate a cold thing it stays cold!

I find 'heat holders' brand is really good. Hairdryer on them or putting them on the radiator before you put them on works a treat too!

Sorry but I have tried several socks including Sealskins and thermal but none work. I have only just got the Iloprost drip and my feet have warmed

Its easy to spend a fortune on thermal socks to find they are not that good , it's great to get tried and tested ideas xx

I purchased wool socks, but this also does not help 100%. I sometimes wear 2 pr. of socks. Wish there was something to keep fully warm. Also wish the medical industry would know more about Raynaud's and what causes it and how to cure.

I agree with you big time ,my furry slipper boots have even stopped working😥

Hi

I have bought socks from the scleroderma and Raynauds Association which have silver in them. They're better than normal socks. Sometimes I wear 2 pairs.

weathervane profile image
weathervane in reply toLyndabickley

Two pairs maybe the answer a thin liner with the thermal😀

chockers profile image
chockers in reply toLyndabickley

they are useless

Silver wool things work very well.

but also look at your footwear! tight/thin shoes/soles are not what you want trainers with those air soles are good not the hard plasticy/rubber types though as need an air cushion between feet and outside to insulate

you want more loose fitting but not sloppy fit so keeps circulation without being too loose or end up pressing hard to keep feet/footing steady.

Handwarmers have a look at the petrol ones run on lighter fuel no flames just pure heat 60 'c's

Ive peacock but can get cheaper from Zippo which is a generic range stamped zippo

Peacock is made in Japan better quality come in three sizes runs as long as you like by using measure when filling just don't put flame to part on top that has platinum wool which is what produces heat so if burn it it wont work as it's a catalyst method same as one in petrol car exhaust vapour is turned into heat by the catalyst top.

the largest size is great for putting round your back keeps all of you warm then ive midd size have one in each pocket.

Another one is Merino wool socks or those short stocking socks in thick denier they trap heat in same way you see runners in those Helly hansen tops ones with stripes on sleeves nothing more than thick stocking material.

natural help is Ginger/Cayenne pepper in your food regularly builds it up.

One of my issues is i don't always feel cold but guess am as my feet was purpley/blue other day when took socks off

I agree, if you keep moving it does help

One thing that helps me is to remember that the chill that triggers raynauds is from your core and affects the hands and feet. Not necessarily from just your feet being cold. Keeping your body warm will help with your feet.

Thank you, this has just started getting worse in last 18 months so still learning

I take Nefedipress every morning which helps my circulation. If I forget to take it, I know by 11am regardless of the weather as my feet will be cold. I wear ski socks and sometimes thin cotton socks underneath. Last year I did use some warmers that you shake the packet to mix the chemicals and the heat up. They were good but a little bulky in the shoes. I'm outside a lot as I have 3 horses. When I ride my feet get cold, if I'm schooling it's not as bad as my whole body keeps warm. I do high level dressage so it's fairly strenuous exercise, but hacking out I do get fairly cold. I make sure I move my toes about and that I keep my body temp as warm as possible.

Found some great 100% or 80% wool socks at REI, a recreational outdoor sports store. They also have an online store. A bit pricey, but wool socks are a great answer for cold feet. They keep my feet quite warm. REI also sells 100% wool liner gloves. I bough a pair as well and they are comfortable and keep my hands warm. Also pricey, but it's worth the comfort.

Blessings to all for a wonderful and merry Christmas.

Is REI in the USA ? I have looked at some outdoor wear shops here in ireland and thought the selection was very limited. Unfortunately some wool really itches my feet - makes it bit more difficult!! Im glad you had success, wishing you a very happy Christmas as well xxx
