Sometimes the test caun be a false positive. I would have the test run again by a rheumatologist. If it id a positive you want to look into what may be goingon.

A person with an autoimmune disease can have varying ANA test results on any given day. A second test may not prove anything. Only a rheumatologist can diagnose if a high ANA score can determine any type of autoimmune disease. ANA stands for Anti Nuclear Antigen, and it's the chemical compound in the blood that can indicate different types of autoimmune diseases. Those who have been diagnosed can experience periods of no symptoms followed by heightened periods of pain or discomfort, inflammation, circulatory problems, digestive problems, shortness of breath, or any combination of these conditions. Since there is no known cause and no known cure, the best we can do is make ourselves comfortable during these heightened times of flair-ups, and to be good to ourselves. Get plenty of rest, drink fluids, eat healthy, and take whatever meds that your GP advises, even if it they are OTC drugs, such as antacids or pain relievers. Don't try to overdo any exercise routine, as we can become extremely fatigued with very little exertion. Most definitely see your GP, but demand to be referred to a rheumatologist for the expert opinion on your condition. Best wishes on overcoming this hurdle.

I have had my ANA taken twice - six months apart - and both times was told it was negative. But I still have symptoms of Raynauds as well as symptoms of Sjogrens and chronic hives on my face, complete fatigue and a diagnosis of RA and high inflammatory markers (even though I'm not having much joint pain presently). I feel that I might be an exception to the rule of positive ANA - but perhaps there are quite a lot of exceptions - more than the statistics suggest?
