Fit health watches

I use a fit health watch and have the App on my phone, I have sleep apnea and use a CPAP machine all so in my 70s Can you tell me if this technology is accurate as on my charts I keep finding periods in my sleep that show waking up time a lot but unaware I am awake presuming I have been having apneas, even though using the sleep CAAP machine should limit this. Before I trouble my Doctor or the sleep clinic I need to know how accurate these watches and Apps are. Would appreciate any advice.

I use Garmin (Forerunner with fairly high end technology to capture heart rate, sleep, etc).

My device is very good at capturing time I am asleep, but very unreliable at determining my actual light, deep and REM sleep. It uses historical data as well as a very extensive algorithm to determine these data points. In addition, the awakings it tells me are based on enough ARM movements not necessarily my actual awakenings, only if I move enough to tell it I am wake.

So these are good for getting a very broad view but not able to give you actual health data to be used to guage your health, such as your sleep.

Hi and thanks for your reply, My REM readings seem good but my deep sleep is worrying as the data shows a few minutes or non at all

You’re most welcome. On my device, I find these points of data very in accurate. There is no way a mathematical equation plus a little heart rate data knows what my internal brain and body are doing. 😜

Hi frank73, if you don’t mind me asking, what cpap machine do you have?

The newer ones can be read remotely by your sleep clinic if they are connected to your WiFi, and they would be able to tell you if your sleep stats are ok or not.

Mine is an old one I had it coming up to 7 years,I used to visit the clinic once a year and they would check my readings. But the trust was I am sent me a letter saying they had to many on their books and they would not be checking me for 3 years, I have another year and a half to go which could be longer because of the virus shutting down the clinics,
