Sickle trait 's' blood count percentages.

Hi All, it's been a while since I've posted on here :-)

I just wondered whether anyone here has had their sickle trait blood percentage tested?

My son has been very lethargic and complaining of leg pains for a number of weeks now. He was anaemic eighteen months ago and his vitamin d levels were low and he was complaining of tiredness back then. The vitamins prescribed seemed to do the trick but he is now having symptoms again.

I requested that a sickle count was done 18 months ago and it came back as 37% of sickle cells (if my memory serves me correctly). The doctor told me this number will stay the same for life. I really don't know whether this is a high percentage that maybe causing my son his symptoms or a low percentage and have no significance. The doctor know even less than me and even though she understands my concerns and reasons for wanting some clarification and knowledge on whether my sons blood work is causing his difficulties she doesn't know where to find out any information.

Appreciate any knowledge on this and am interested in anyone else's percentages of sickle cell trait count. I am requesting my own count on my next visit to the doctors if possible.

Thanks

:-)
