sickle cell trait : Hello everyone, I've... - Sickle Cell Society
sickle cell trait
You are right. Some doctors do ignore the pain especially those with no clue about sickle cell. They think we are pretending.
My youngest son and I both have the trait. Recently he was finally sent to a hematologist to determine if the pain he is in constantly is related to the trait. I was diagnosed with lupus and a host of other conditions over the last few years and I believe that the trait predisposed me, but none of the doctors believe that.
TemTem, even the doctors with knowledge about the illness seem to ignore those with the trait and in pain because "the trait is not supposed to cause crises." It may not supposed to BUT IT DOES!
Stay strong! One day someone will listen. Keep at them.
I feel the same way,I don't think they don't get it we can die from it just with the trait then why don't we have symptoms...I hurt all the time
Yes agree pain crisis is very real, the truth is doctors don't want to acknowledge the problems people with trait face because they don't fit into a box or their status. In reality it isn't as rare as they say. More people with the trait have pain related to sickle cell and trait. I have pain everyday and it is not easy finding doctors that believe. Hang in there.
