Has anyone developed severe osteoperosis from cancer treatment? I am afraid of the medication being recommended to me. PROLIA. Has anyone in cancer treatment been on this drug.? I already don't feel great. I certainly don't want to feel worse. Not sure how to help my bones. Looking into calcium made with algea. Any suggestions would be a blessing to me. Thank you!!!

Osteoperosis from cancer treatments. HELP!!!!
I have osteoporosis for many years, but lived and worked with it. Just gets worse as you get older. However, not long after I was off chemo and had second surgery, I was having horrible headaches, earache, stiff neck and many other miserable pains. I went to several specialists & no one could account for it. Finally went to pain mgmnt dr., had scan and showed how bad my osteo had become and was pinching on a nerve in upper shoulder. Took several months of insurance mandated procedures, but final treatment was nerve ablation. It took all that pain away and that was 2 years ago. I wish you well and hope you find a solution...might want to check with pain mgmnt dr.....he is affiliated with my Oncology Center and my surgeon recommended him. Best Wishes !!
Thank you!!
My joints ache terribly and I'm very stiff now. I thought at first it was Olaparib making it worse.I'm also on Anastrazole to help prevent breast cancer (I'm brca positive) and having read the blurb I realise that is probably the main culprit.
I'm on it for 5 years.
I did very briefly consider stopping it because of the side effects but I fear the side effects of cancer more!
I have found simple stretching exercises in the morning help so I've made an appointment to see my gp and I'm going to ask for referral to a physio .
Are the side effects of the drug very common?
You might be lucky and not have any problems.
You could start it and always stop if it makes you feel worse?
Best of luck.

I did Prolia injections for a few years prior to being diagnosed with cancer. As per advise of my oncologist, I stopped for a few years while in treatment. I restarted again this year. I don't have any side-effects to Prolia. Best of luck to you!
I had issues with Osteopenia even b4 OC 3c diagnosis in Dec. 2015. I completed chemo July 2016 . Had a recurrence in Dec. 2019 and chemo again thru April 2016. For the past 6 years , I chose just to take a daily calcium / magnesium / vit. D3 supplements. I take an addl. 2000IU of Vit. D3 daily . I always have my PC Dr. check my Vitamin D levels and even with all the supplementation my D levels are ok , average which is fine. My last Bone Density scan showed a very slight improvement which is much better than deterioration. I attribute this to doing weight bearing exercises finally on a regular basis . These can be done with even small hand weights at home but consult a trainer for a program that could work for you. There are ways to even do these with just your upper body if you still suffer from fatigue or have standing issues.
