I am about to start on the chemo drug, Doxil. Wondering if anyone had experience with this drug.

Yes, like you, I would like to know what anyone out there has experienced with Doxil. This will be my next line of treatment if my tumor markers continue to go up. I’ve already had Ibrance, Verzenio, Xeloda, Faslodex, Adrimycin and currently on taking Methotrexate IV weekly and Cyclophosphamide orally daily. I have Metastatic Breast Cancer in my bones & liver.

Pretty similar to me except that I had what you are on now 20 years ago… Doxil is the same drug as Adriamycin that you are on but has a lipid layer which helps make it better tolerated. Most people don’t lose their hair and don’t throw up. I also have Mets to bones liver and around my tummy.

So you have survived on this medication for 20 years, WOW! I have 4th stage in bones and liver. My doc wants me to have brain MRI and I’m worried about why! Have you done this?

Sorry Let me clarify in 2005 with early stage Breast cancer, I had to go on adriamycin ( generic name Doxirubucin) 19 years later, in 2020, Mets to bones and later liver.. I’m now 4th line on Doxil which is an easier to take version of adriamycin with a lipid layer… which is why hair doesn’t always fall out and less nausea etc. just to clarify, I have only been treated for Mets for 4 years not 20. Hope thst was helpful.

I do! I came off Xeloda after a small progression in may… and immediately started on 2 cycles of Doxil. I had to take a 6 week break so just had my 3rd round of iv doxil. I have sailed thru with no N&V or fatigue. That lipid layer really works to make this more tolerable than the old red devil doxorubicin or epirubicin( all the anthracyclines) the premeds they give you will be intense… first the benedryl makes me blob out… I kind of like that part.. then they give you some dexamethazone which speeds you up.. this combo help keep you from N&V. I think this one is my fav one so far! Also my markers are down and my symptoms are a distance memory for now. I’m praying this lasts all the way thru my winter trip to Nz before having to switch. That’s the goal.

So it is working. That is great. What is N&V? Lipid layer? Is blobbing out turning into a blob or getting very relaxed?

So sorry to talk in jargon. N&V is nausea and vomiting and yes blobbing out getting very relaxed…. I think this weeks chemo is making me pretty tired!

I have been metastatic for 8 years now. I was on ibrance for over 5 years. Also did xeloda, verzenio , fulvestrant, arimidex to name a few. I have now developed cutaneous mbc lesions in a larger area over my chest. in addition to small lesion in lung. Started Doxil . I'm on the second round. I had quite an allergic response and had to be hit hard with benadryl and steroids. The first round went ok but ever since the second round I have had extreme dry mouth and extreme fatigue. Has anyone had this? it's worth it if it works but we still don't see any improvement in the lesions. As per others, I haven't lost my hair, just thinned and no NandV thanks to the anti nauseants prescribed.
