I had breast cancer in 1996. I was treated with a double mastectomy, hormonal therapy, and chemotherapy. I had no radiation. Now, in 2024, I have a metathesized breast cancer primarily in the bones with foci in my lungs, and thickening in my pleura. I feel fine, although my blood markers have been creeping up (54, 72, 83) or on the Beckman scale irratic (1450, 1111, 1278) Haven't had a comparison scan yet, but one is scheduled within the month. I am on hormonal therapy. Before starting the hormonal therapy, I had pains like sciatica. A week later, I had no pain at all, and still have no pain.

I wouldn’t worry about erratic tumour markers this early into treatment. Markers can go up for reasons unrelated to the cancer and those who find their markers are trustworthy rely upon a trend. So a thirty percent increase for at least three tests and there might be a problem but there’s a reason why so many doctors don’t test for them. The CA15.3 can be high even if you don’t have breast cancer. The gold standard is the scans and you have that already in hand.
