Cancer Cell Blood Test

My oncologist has suggested I get the cancer cell blood test done. Has anyone had this test? What were the results? I have had severe side effects on all chemo and cancer drugs and my Oncologist has recommended it.

Hi Aging69, I am wondering which cancer cell blood tests? I have had several blood tests regarding tumor markers like CA 27.29 and CA 15.3 and CEA all for breast cancer. Or are you referring to liquid biopsy or genetic testing?

I had a Tempus liquid biopsy and the results came over to my portal about 7 days later. It shows tumor fraction and level of tumor burden as well as type and mutations. It also recommends clinical trials based on results.

Thank you for asking this question! I believe this is the liquid biopsy / CTDNA blood test I've been asking my Dr about for a year now and he has no clue what I'm talking about. I'll be following this post. Good luck!

I’ve had the Guardant 360 ctDNA test done twice. It identifies the amount of circulating tumor DNA as well as mutations. The test also lists FDA approved therapies for known mutations and clinical trials for mutations and treatments being developed. This is a separate test from the traditional tumor marker tests (CA 15-3, CA 27.29 & CEA).

I enrolled in the D.A.R.E.clinical trial for Stages I-III ER positive breast CA- the screening phase consists of an initial marking of your tumor DNA...then your blood is drawn to see if ctDNA is present in your blood...the initial marked sample comes from the cancerous tissue that had Been removed surgically previously...your ctDNA is then tagged in the sample and stored ...then your blood is drawn every 6 months and tested for this stored marker...this process is repeated every 6 months until either ctDNA appears in your blood and at that point you enter the drug phase of the trial or after several years (3 or 4) if still no tumor DNA in your blood you are then declared ineligible for the trial and released from it, meaning , of course, you are cancer free...it is one of the most logical trials out there in my opinion....

I had the blood test and they discovered that I have 2 mutations , ESR1 and PIK3. This is all new to me and I’m going to start on new medication. Not sure about any of this?
