I wrote about waiting to hear from the Mayo Clinic to see if I should continue with Ibrance.
My oncologist and Mayo Clinic agreed that I should only continue taking Letrozole for 10 years and not Ibrance.
I had left breast cancer in 2009 did Chemo and was on Letrozole for 5 years. It was three years later in 2018 the same cancer came back in lymph nodes , which more were taken out. Did radiation and was put on Ibrance.
My oncologist in Kaiser, in CA told me to stay on Ibrance that was why my pet scan was cancer free in Nov.
I did and I moved to Pennsylvania and go to the Guthrie Cancer Center and had another pet scan and was cancer free and she suggested I go
Off of Ibrance... but stay on Letrozole for 10 years.
She sent my records to the Mayo Clinic and they also agreed. But they told me it was up to me.

I would be feeling confused by the differences of opinion. Surely the oncologists should agree on the best course of action for you rather than expecting you to decide what to do for the best? I am not a medical professional so would not know what to decide. So am I right in assuming you had a recurrence rather than metastatic breast cancer? Itโs just that you mentioned you are considered cancer free.
Well the Mayo Clinic agreed that I should go off of Inrance and stay on Lestrozole for the next ten years.
They also do not know if my cancer, the second time was Metastatic because it just came back under my left arm pit in the lymph nodes. Same place plus a small tumor in left breast. It did not spread anywhere else. So they actually did not know if it is metastatic.
I am kind of wondering now . Maybe I should try to call my a Kaiser oncologist in California and tell him what they told me.
Last Nov my pet scan was cancer free and I asked him maybe I could go
Off of Ibrance? He said โNo, it was maybe the Ibrance that is keeping the cancer at bay.โ So I continued. Now that I moved to
PA and now have a new Oncologist and 10 months later from last Nov had a pet scan it was clear.
Do you have metastatic breast cancer? If so, I would think they would want you to stay on Ibrance as long as it is keeping you stable. Best wishes with your decisions and congrats on your good news. Blessings Hannah
Hi, They do not know if my cancer was metastatic, as it did not spread anywhere else but again was in my lymph nodes in left arm pit. I had the tumor removed from
Left breast in 2009. Had a double mastectomy and rebuild.
The Mayo Clinic asked to keep my medical records for research. I said yes and sign it ok.
Please ask your oncologist what stage you are. The stage makes a difference. Also, ask him/her what he would suggest if you were his sister. I wish you the best that life has to offer. Blessings, Hannah
Congrats on great scan results. However, I am also wondering if you were considered metastatic. I have just had a "good" scan but have come to understand that I will never be considered cancer free. I do know that each person has to make their own decisions about how to continue with treatment. I hope that you can determine what is best for you and move forward with confidence. Blessings!!
