I started taking Claritin for allergy symptoms caused by the meds. I hope it’s a simple solution for you!

I too had watery eyes as a side effect. It came a good month and a half being on Verzenio. I have paused this med due to very bad diarrhea 3-5 x per day at any given time. Since the pause, my eyes stop tearing and explosive diarrhea stopped. 😀

is it safe to pause the medication or did you start it back up and your eyes still have not started to tear again? Please explain how are you doing with the diarrhea now. At first I had diarrhea for like the first two years and then all of a sudden, that mysteriously ended. I have very very very weird hair on my head. If any the hair I have is gross and my eyebrows are very sparse. My eyelashes forget it.

Ohhhhh I hear you on the tears. It's just maddening. Reading your note, I realize that this the first week in a long while that I have not had them. I am on Ibrance, Faslodex shots and Xgeva. I am going to get myself to an optometrist. My optician suggested one; I just need to find his card. The oncologist swears it is not the drugs. I am not so sure. I have bone only...one spot and have been NED since summer of 2019.

I've had taken both Faslodex and Xgeva without the tears issue but I did have it badly, years ago, after one of my infusion chemos! I went to a specialist optometrist who ended up inserting teeny tiny glass tubes, one in each of my lower tear ducts. It sounds awful but you really can't feel them, and they did help as they open up the ducts (which had become shrunken so the tears couldn't drain away from my eyes into the sinus area, as they normally would do). They stayed in for about 6 months, and its no issue at all except to avoid rubbing your eyes!

It might be the Faslodex that's causing it in you. Do you hydrate well? Anyway, I would go to a good optometrist. Ask your oncology office for a contact because I'm not sure they all do it.

It’s on the list of side effects caused by verzanio.

Hi

I'm on slightly different meds but I also have almost constantly weepy eyes.

I think it's the hormone suppression meds. I'm on Letrozole and Zoladex aswell as ibrance.

I find my eyes are extra sensitive to light, temperature and air current...so it's worse outside. It sounds contradictory but the eyes actually dry out so our "tears" work overtime to keep our eyes moist.

I've heard that good natural eye drops help...but I'm not organised enough to remember using them multiple times a day.

Lol , I’m not either but because I’m suffering constantly I can’t forget but it doesn’t help :(

Hi, letrozole, faslo and ibrance here and this is a problem I have, on and off. There was a stage when I had it every day during my walk , now however its stopped . Havent had it for about 6 months .....can't help with a cure I'm.afraid as I didn't take anything to counteract it. Best of luck

I’m on Exemestane and Xgeva and I have the dry eyes too. An ophthalmologist says it’s allergic conjunctivitis and recommended Claratyne and Natural Tears eye drops. I did that but while it helped a bit I saw a post where someone said it’s a response to low oestrogen and that makes sense. I took cod liver oil capsules as suggested but it still didn’t fix the problem. Now I take loratadine and fish oil tablets. I still have the issues described by disco cat but it’s much better than it was.

You’re not alone. It also happens to me and I believe it’s the Ibrance. I have Kleenex boxes everywhere. I use a lot of eye lubricants because I believe the meds dry your eyes up also . My eye doctor said my eyes are fine but when there isn’t enough hormones it can be the cause. Hope this helps.

I also have weepy eyes and seems to be from Ibrance. My eye dr told me I have dry eyea and gave me a prescription with steroids in it. Thats has really helped me.

Mine did too, I am on Ibrance and Arv 471, a trial med. I attributed my constant eye watering to the Ibrance. My optometrist recommended a couple of eye drops that helped. Then I had to go off Ibrance before hernia repair surgery for about a month. When I went back on Ibrance, my watery eye problem substantially subsided. I would suggest a good optometrist or opthamologist should be able to help.

Please anything you find please update 🩷

On same meds as you and have same problem with tearing. Probably not a particular med but they contribute. As we age our eyes as well as our "lady parts" become dry and irritated. The meds we take that block our hormones also are part of the problem. Try some preservative-free OTC drops, several brands until you find one that helps. These can be used basically PRN. If those don't help, then talk to your ophthalmologist. They have many options including some new prescription drops that are touted as very effective. I'll be discussing these with my doctor soon.

I have mBC and am on Ibrance/letrosole, but I also have dry eye, which is as someone mentioned, can just progress as you get older anyway. While I don't experience watering from the Ibrance, until I started using drops regularly, I could end up with scratched cornea just from dryness. It can come on quickly, and be painful and damaging. Because once you've scratched it, it can scar over and re-scratch easily. I will just say if you are watering out your eyes, or experience scratchiness or dryness, start doing drops regularly. At least 2x/day, up to 4x a day with a comfort overnight gel drop for the nighttime. Systane is a good brand, and there are others. An optomotrist can help diagnose very quickly --- you do not need to see an opthamologist. mBC or not, we need our eyes and we gotta take care of our vision! 👁️

Ocusoft Lid Scrub Plus on Ibrance Letrazole Xgeva 5.5 years started these scrubs daily 1X and they work wonders !!

I had this when on Ibrance. It stopped completely when I stopped Ibrance and fulvestrant and went on an oral SERD. Came back when I started Verzenio. So it seems to me it is the CDK4/6 inhibitors (the targeted meds). I thought it was in the list of side effects.

This has been an intermittent topic here. It you search it, you will find discussions with many recommendations. (I haven't done any of them, and it is getting worse! So doing nothing is not helpful.)

YES! It IS happening to me also! It's terrible. It's so salty too that when I wipe my eyes, it leaves a red irritation rash. My eyelids look like I have red eye or something. Like you, I have no idea which med(s) are causing it, but I'm looking into trying to get a referral to an Optometrist to find out. Meanwhile, I'm making do with taking a warm, slightly drippy wash cloth & washing my eyes 👀, or using Bausch & Lomb eye relief eye wash & then after doing either, lubricating with a store brand eye drops for dry eyes. Good luck to you & please let me know if you find any relief. I wake up in the morning with my eyelids glued to my eye balls!

I've had hay fever type allergies since I was very young so I always have Benadryl and other antihistamines on hand. Since being on various cancer meds, my eyes have become quite dry, often with weepy eyes! My ophthalmologist recommended OTC eye drops. two drops each eye, 4 times a day. Systane and Visene both work well for me. I often use them just 3 times a day and that works pretty well. Good luck to you! i hope you find something that works well for you.

I've been told Ibrance can cause leaky eyes. I have them too. Also on Faslodex shots.

hi long time no see haven’t seen you in a while. I haven’t been on here so many things going on I’m using blink eyedrops now, and I see a big difference compared to all the other kinds. It actually does make my eyes less teary.

OneLump22 profile image
OneLump22 in reply toYcats277

Blink eye drops? Do you mean artificial tears?

Ycats277 profile image
Ycats277 in reply toOneLump22

Yes but they are different ingredients that work differently than the others . I can’t believe it , but I don’t use them all day long. I just put them in like three or four times a day and they work unbelievably you don’t have to keep putting them in they just keep working. They have an oil base or something try it.

OneLump22 profile image
OneLump22 in reply toYcats277

I'd love to! Is this OTC? Or do I need a prescription?

Ycats277 profile image
Ycats277 in reply toOneLump22

I feel so silly that I’ve been suffering so long, but yes, it’s over the counter. It’s right next-door to all the other drops buying for four years. I just started using them. It comes in one little bottle. I would like individual little canisters but I just grabbed this. I can’t believe the difference. I hope it works for you. I’m not saying it’s completely gone but I’m not aware of the leaking eyes all day like I was. I use them 3 to 4 times a day at the most which is awesome for me. And I’m able to wear some make up a little bit.

I have runny eyes, not on any of the meds mentioned in replies. "Dry" eye is my problem. Eyes over compensate to dry and produce tears. Problem is aggregated by use of fans, especially ceiling fan. Pataday brand eye drops help.
