I have mpc stage 4 and am on Lupron and Xtandi. My OC wants to start me on prolia. Should I have a bone density test first? If bone density is good, should I start prolia anyway.

Yes, I would want a bone density first before discussing taking prolia!

While I'm not sure what MPC is? Yes you should have a bone density test before starting Prolia otherwise how would you know if it is helping? or even needed

You are on the wrong site! You used to post on the metastatic prostate cancer site, but this is the metastatic BREAST cancer site. Most of us do not have prostates. It seems that lupron does thin your bones, and there is something you can do to avert that, but it is not prolia. If you have been on lupron for a year, yes, test to see if it is thinning your bones and look into alternatives to lupron.

Thank you TammyCross, I didn’t know there were two different sites. At this point I wish I didn’t have a prostate. Thank you for your help.

Yes, I checked your bio and it seems you posted on prostate mets site a couple of times, then here a couple of times.

I am sure you would rather not have a prostate at the moment! I had a friend visiting NYC from Arizona on Monday. Instead of meeting him at his hotel, I met him at an ER, where he had gotten a catheter because his enlarged prostate was preventing him from urinating. He had a very funny walk and spent his day in NY dealing with the bag and then dreading 5 hour flight. So prostates seem to be vulnerable like breasts, useful once but enough already.😕

Carplake, I am sending you good energy, prayers and all my best for this treatment to work well on your prostate Mets. Metastatic cancer sure is not an easy road.
