This will be my 2nd IV injection. The first one made me very sick for 2 days. Later I read that Claritin taken 5 days prior to the injection will help severity of the sickness. Has anyone had this experience? I took a Claritin last night. Another suggestions.

Thanks for sharing

Kathy

It’s pretty normal for the first infusion of Zometa to have that effect. I was in bed for three days after the first one. I haven’t had any issues since then, but do take the Claritin and take two Tylenol the morning of.

I had the Zometa the first time in July. The first day i was ok felt light headed. But the next day had a 104 temperature. I took Advill and drank plenty of water and alcohol rub downs and the fever left. But now I have no energy and my joints ache more than normal. Glad to know about the Claritin. . Prayers for your healing

I was diagnosed with denovo mbc in 2004, quite a long time ago, and one of the few things I remember vividly about starting treatment was that the first Zometa infusion exhausted me for two or three days and the second one tired me out for a day or so and after that, they were no big deal. (I have had "hay fever" since I was tiny, so was taking an antihistamine) during all that time.) I hope your next infusion will be much easier on you than the first one was. .....

oh yes, Sony…Zometa can have that effect, especially the first time. The Claritin is a great help and I still take it. I was also instructed to drink a lot of fluids when getting the infusion as the medication was hard on the kidneys. So take your Claritin, drink plenty of fluids before and after, and use your Tylenol as needed. However, the subsequent infusions will most like not have such severe effects on yiu…this wonderful med is amazing for rebuilding cancer ravaged bones.

hi Dragonfly. and another great benefit of zometa....it changes the micro-environment of the bones, making them unfavorable for cancer growth. a 'cancer repellant' of sorts is how I think of it😉. my oncologist explained this benefit to me back in 2017, and shortly after, I came across an article stating this same benefit... and they used that same exact word...'micro- environment'! it was great to hear this positive news👍 XO

excellent news! I didn’t know that but it sure explains how well my affected bone has recovered and the lesions have stopped…at least for now !

I had the same reaction after my first injection and now I take two Tylenol before and make sure I drink lots before and after and they infuse it slower. No problems.
