Hi All, I thought I would reach out one more time to see if anyone has gone through a Y90 radioembolization for liver Mets. I am finding that this procedure is used in primary cancers in the liver and colon. My primary cancer is breast with 1 lesion in my liver. I guess there is a difference. Insurance is denying coverage because it is a “unproven procedure” for breast cancer. We are appealing the denial. My question: Have any of you breast cancer patients had Y90 for your liver Mets? If so will you tell me at which cancer institute, who is the interventional radiologist that performed the procedure, did your healthcare plan cover the procedure? Any information will be helpful. Thank you so much!!
Best Regards!!

My wife has metastatic breast cancer which has spread to her liver and lung. She has had 3 Y90 procedures which have proven effective. Gratefully, all three of her Y90 procedures were covered by insurance. The IR that performed the procedure was Dr. Kim at Mount Sinai in NYC. Him and his team have been amazing.
This procedure works. I wish you success on your journey.
I have just completed the 3 step process that was required to get through the Y90 process. I don't have a lot of information to give to you at this point as I have not had my follow up scans as of yet. I will in about two months. Although I am so happy bc my Tumor Markers are back in the normal range almost. My TM's have always been accurate. My blood draws were right after the first dose of y90. I have the hopes that this is a very good sign that the tumors are dying. I have Breast Cancer and my mets are confined to my liver. My insurance covered. I am about 35 minutes N of Atlanta GA. IR
Doctor Jin Park. Awesome 😊 Hope this information helps.
I have had 2 Y90 procedures performed in April and July in Santa Barbara CA at Cottage Hospital. The interventional radiologist was Dr. Singh. It was successful but I have suffered some side effects that are under control now. It was covered by my insurance (large co-pay). I recommend the procedure in that I had rather extensive mets to my liver and it is an outpatient procedure with a relatively short recovery. Using the femoral artery was far superior to using my left arm (1st surgery). Wishing you every success.
Thank you so much for your response. I am happy it was successful for you. I really didn’t get a lot of response on this site from MBC patients that had gone through Y90. I think maybe 4 or 5. I have decided to wait to move forward with Y90: My case was presented b/4 another tumor board at UW Carbone Cancer Center in Madison (2nd opinion) and they are not recommending it. Insurance is still pending. We appealed their denial. Also, the biopsy results are not completely back. I just feel like there are too many balls in the air and I need more information which hopefully I will get in the next few days to move forward. The Y90 procedure was today but I cancelled it on Friday knowing I wasn’t going to get anymore answers over the holiday weekend. Thank you and sending you my best as you navigate this journey. Deb
