Hi, I am not on Ibrance but my medication also puts me at risk of mouth sores. I was prescribed a mouthwash called Benzydamine to be used three times a day -- it's working so far.All the very best

I went the health food store and got liquid lysine or you can get online. That along with the prescribed mouthwash really helped.

The pharmacy were always offering me mouthwash when picking up my ibrance from the hospital, ask if they can give it to you. I never used it, bought my own mouthwash that I was happy with.

What I did/do was/is take extra special care of my mouth (paranoid at losing teeth) and would ‘try’ and avoid foods that would aggravate it….especially spicy food. Funny enough, I had more issues with the tip of my tongue - it would look as if it had been worn out if I indulged in spicy food and fizzy sweets 🤣… served me right I guess!! Now on Faslodex only, my tongue is still sensitive to spice but stays intact.

Hope you find something that helps soon.

I sometimes experience issues with the tip of my tongue ~ I have been reading about it lately and there is a link to B vitamin deficiency which I am just exploring. I already know I had some challenges with gut health which I have been working on and so therefore as your B vitamins are made in your gut there may well be a connection. I don’t know if you can get your levels checked ~ I am due to consult with a Nutritionist soon so hoping she can help me further

JoinZOE.comThey have a whole program regarding gut microbiome, including testing and recommendations for personal food choices based on your testing

in reply toANNIE6449

Thanks they only operate in the US at the moment. I am on their waiting list for when they launch in UK.

At the moment I’ve done test with Atlas Biome and as I’ve done my Nutrition Genome 🧬 I’ve already got a sense of good foods etc. plus I’ve also had gut microbiome replacement therapy which has worked in part

That's funny - I thought they started in the UK! I would love to know more about gut microbiome replacement therapy. Mine scored extremely low on the Zoe test!!

in reply toANNIE6449

So I did gut replacement therapy at a clinic in UK ~ The Dove Clinic in Winchester run by Dr Julian Keynon. I would recommend that treatment but he will tend to encourage you to take up others but just need to hold the line that this is your focus

The Gut Flora Replacement process involves 10 treatments and a Colon Hydrotherapy on the first day of treatment.

The Gut Flora Replacement is delivered via a rectal catheter, which is inserted through the anus to reach the lower part of the sigmoid colon. You have 5 different mixes which are each repeated once (5 mixes x 2). I had a couple done a week and then you need to make sure your get lots of rest

At the moment due to Covid Faecal Microbiome Transplants aren’t available so this is a good alternative

I would also suggest checking out Chris Woollams HUG protocol on how to heal your gut

I’m very interested in gut health too, did the nutritionist give you some good ‘easy to follow’ advice? Do you recommend seeing one or is it common sense?

in reply toNtash01

I do think there is value in seeing a duly qualified BANT registered Nutritional Therapist

Also worth checking out Chris Woollams HUG protocol on how to heal your gut

Ask your doctor for a prescription for what is called "Magic Mouthwash." I used "First Mouthwash BLM." It was like a miracle for me because I had horrible, ulcerative sores from Ibrance that were very painful. The mouthwash is expensive. Mine was not covered by insurance but it worked wonderfully. It was really amazing.

They make it in pill form a whole lot cheaper

I make for. A 50/50 mix of liquid Benadryl and Malox. Do not swallow. Swish in mouth for 30-60 seconds, spit and rinse. It clears up the sores and numbs the mouth.

Magic mouthwash

I found I also had issues ~ tried to steer clear of the really harsh mouthwashes that are available. In the end what I found worked for me is~ Being conscious of how I contribute. I realised I have a tendency to bite the interior or my cheek when stressed so I am much more conscious now

~ I have been much more careful with oral health and always rinse round carefully after clearing my teeth and I swapped to softer heads and I clean with more care so as not to bang my mouth

~ I take an adaptogen which helps boost immune system which is astragalus which I take as a tincture in water which makes me feel better and seems to help

~ I also take a herb called triphala which helps with overall oral biome health

Hope that you find some relief

Hi Bailey;

Baking soda rinse is what works for me. As soon as they start, I am rinsing. I have out baking soda directly on the sores. Seems to help a bit. I haven't had any for the last 2 cycles. Always a surprise with what symptoms will arise. I am on my 7 days off right now,. 🙏❤

Yes, if I remember to use it 2-4x per day it works for me too.

I also had terrible mouthsores and used Magic Mike which just lessened the pain, but then mixed salt and baking soda, about a tablespoon each, a little warm water and rinsed with that at least 4 times a day. They pretty much healed up within a week. Sometimes it stung a little but didnt mind because I knew it was working😀

I am sad for you - mouth sores must be awful. I am also taking Ibrance and have not had any mouth sores but what i did from day one is brush my teeth vigorously. The instructions I got with my drugs advised me to brush teeth gently but I didn't listen to them. I use and electric tooth brush and I brush my gums and my teeth very briskly. I learned this from my husband who is 80 years old and has the gums and teeth of a 40 year old. The dentist is amazed at his oral health. So it makes me wonder if you should start slowly but increase how briskly you brush your teeth and gums. Especially your gums. It might bring blood flow to the area and help heal the sores. I wouldn't brush on top of anything that is already sore but if you can work up to vigorous brushing it might help. It cannot hurt to give this a try. Hugs Vienna

Hello, Bailey!I had horrible mouth sores when my treatment was changed to Capecitabine. I tried so many recommended products until I discovered Prevention Oncology Mouth Rinse (available on Amazon: amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07WC452...

Also, best toothpaste was SQUIGLE (also on Amazon). Every other product just burned my mouth terribly.

Hope you have success with these! I haven’t had a mouth sore since!

God bless you!!

I can't remember the name of the shot I took when I was on Ibrance but it caused my jaw bone to bust open and it had a build up of bone. I had to go to a orthopedic dentist to have it drilled down little by little took about 6 weeks or so to get it back to normal. My gums never have healed over where it happened. The company that makes the drug warned about that side effect. I didn't know that at the time but I check all side effects now. My onc took me off the med immediately and put me on something else. I will look up the hormone blocker and repost. Has anyone else experienced this? I took Ibrance for 5 years with no issues until a couple of months ago. It stopped working and cancer in my liver (But is gone now after 14 chemo injection's. Now working on Bone Mets all over my body.

Godismycomfort profile image
Godismycomfort in reply toGodismycomfort

The name was Xgeva it was in the family of drugs used to treat Bone Mets. I looked it up and most classes of these drugs biosulfenate have the same side effects.I used Magic Mouthwash and also rinsed with baking soda and a pinch of salt. Per Cancer dentist.
