Everolimus and Exemestane

Hi ladies, has anyone on this combination had very small bumps come up over their chest bone and terrible irritation like prickly heat over the arms, chest and legs. I also have the rash underarms. It’s driving me crazy. I could scratch my skin to pieces. I take antihistamine to help me sleep of a night, that doesn’t always work and good old fashioned Calamine Lotion that looks hideous when you go out as it dries up white. My friends Mum had the same situation but she is on different drugs to me. The hospital gave her antihistamine intravenously and she has to have a steroid injection before her treatment.

I had my tooth out Thursday, as a follow up from my last post and ONJ. It’s swollen and sore but that expected as there is still infection there. Next step is a crown on another tooth next Thursday, that all being well.

I don't know why you are suffering from itching but I know it can be terrible. I had a similar situation last year and it turned out that I was allergic to some food I was eating. I am still occasionally getting itchy but it is very mild itching and it happens when I eat apples. Something you are eating might be reacting negatively with your drugs. I don't know if this information will help you but I hope you can resolve this soon as it is very stressful. Go over your diet very carefully and see if you have added anything different to your diet or if you are eating a lot of something that you were not eating regularly in the past.

Thanks Marlene. I never thought of that. I now have even bigger bumps coming up on my chest area that itches like crazy. My diet hasn’t changed but I will see the Oncologist Friday. I’m sure I will get an answer and I will mention diet.Take care

Oh Cheryl you poor thing, you are really going through it right now. My Brother in law had the same thing with IV chemo. They gave him a cream to use for it. Sounds like you need something strong to calm that down. I hope it settles in time for your trip away.Clare x

Thanks Clare. We don’t know how these drugs affect us till will go on them. Bearing in mind I had to self inject for possible clots, had dye injected into me for the scan, gunge smothered over me for the ultrasound and 3 lots of antibiotics for this bloody tooth extraction. We are going straight off to Cockermouth area after I’ve seen the Oncologist at 1.00:Friday. Fingers crossed. Xx

Sure is Clare😅😇. It’s such a pretty place but unfortunately it gets flooded more or less every year. It’s got a lovely Fish n Chip shop. We are staying a few miles away in a place called Baggrow. Just a pub there and nothing else so darent run out of milk and sugar or it would have to be beer drinking (promise I won’t) ha ha. Have to milk a cow in the back field if we do run out. Xxxxx

Yep, the odd beer will be great. Baggrow is a tiny hamlet. Off track and wonderful. You can see Skiddaw in the distance. Oh boy, I used to be able to walk those mountains but not know. I think Catbells would be hard for me now. There is a new walk that has been adapted for those less able but I can’t remember the name. I’m going to try that with Hubby’s help. I should be ok as it’s a very steady incline. Got the boots and waterproof ready 😅. Had bloods done today. Collection of treatment tomorrow from the hospital if my blood is ok. Oncologist Friday then off we go 🌲🌳🙋🏼‍♀️. Will be in touch.

Have a lovely time in the Lakes Cheryl ! I don’t know if this may help or not , but it is something I use to ease itchy skin. It is a tea tree and witch hazel cream that calms irritated skin and rashes (Amazon U.K. a 200g pot is around £15 from a company called The Witch Hazel Experts ), or there may be other similar products. Take care ! x

That’s interesting. Im all for that. I love tea tree oil. I use it a lot as a foot soak. It’s and great antiseptic. Will take a look in the morning. Best wishes

Would it be possible to stop the chemo drugs for a break from the terrible itching, at least until something is sorted out?

I will ask on Friday when I see the Oncologist. I’m losing to much sleep with it now . I had a week off two weeks ago to see what was going on. Made no difference.

Hi Cheryl,I am on the Facebook group for this combo as it will probably be my next line of treatment, and this issue comes up a lot. Several people recommend Benadryl and also something called Allegra which doesn’t seem to be available in the UK. Might be worth you checking out this group.

The ladies seem to be mostly in the US but there are some good tips on there (also a few horror stories)- I have been stockpiling all the potentially useful advice.

I do have some severe allergies. : ( I take 2 natural anti-histamine/antinflamatory combo capsules daily. 1 in the morning, and 1 at night.. I sometime have to have a Zyrtec, or Claritin capsule, and sometimes I have to add a Benadryl to this regime . For skin pain, and itching I create a mixture of anti itch Hydrocortisone cream with a small amount of the powder from a Benadry, or Claritin capsule. I then rub it in the affected area. This solves my problem for pennies on the dollar .Benadryl has a cream that cost around $15.-$20 . In the worst case scenario I will need to use my epinephrine injector, or have a trip to the Emergency room Have you seen the movie "The boy in the bubble. I am the girl in the bubble, but grateful to GOD that I have researched , and found that this protocol works for me. There are a small amount what is called a compound pharmacy that will mix solutions for you . I hope pray you get relief ASAP 🙏😇

I've had "skin issues" on and off for a long time! Have seen 3 different dermatolgists and an allergist. The allergist has had me on alot of anti-histimine tablets, currently Zyrtec two tablets in the morning and two at bed time, plus another-name escapes me at the moment. I've been on an oral steroid for four days out of five it's prescribed for (for another issue) and the itching has gone away. Hard to live with severe itch, that's for sure

I have a feeling I may have to have steroids in one form or another judging from ladies I know. I take antihistamine now anyway. I see the Oncologist Friday so will have a good chat with him. Thank you for your info. Take care and I am glad you are over the itching.🌹👍

Dear Flower FairyYou shouldn't have to be taking antihistamine to contract such bad side effects of a cancer drug. Pretty soon you may be having side effects for the side effects. Can't you doctor prescribe a cancer drug that is more aligned with your particular body?

I really feel for you knowing how truly horrible a bad itch is. It can drive you crazy. I am hoping that you have a good meeting with your doctor and that you come away from her or him feeling that you have been giving real and immediate help.

Thank you. I will update after seeing him as my treatment nurse said it’s quite common on these drugs. My next option is a chemotherapy drug taken orally but I’m not sure I want that yet. Take care x
