My mum has now been moved on to maintenance oral drug Tamoxifen.. after having 23 weekly taxols for 4 small liver mets. She had good response from the taxol but her oncologist wants her to have a break from it as she’s had a lot so on to tamoxifen. Had anyone had any experience with this? My mum is 60 first line drugs letrozole and Ibrance didn’t work thanks x

Tamoxifen?
Hi Nat1990 -
I was on Tamoxifen between my initial (non-metastatic) diagnosis and my metastatic diagnosis. It was easy pie. A complete non-event, truly, in terms of side-effects. In terms of efficacy for MBC? I don't know, but I think that it's good she has this weapon in her arsenal, i.e. she did not take it before...my layperson's understanding is that each treatment we take can have some duration of effectiveness, so I view it as additive, and the fact that this drug is available to her is good and will hopefully give her a nice, long run.
Best,
Lynn
Hi there. My experience is the same as Lynn. I took Tamoxifen for 5 years after my original diagnosis. I remember a tiny rash along my spine for a couple of months, but essentially nothing. I wish her all the best. She will welcome this drug after Taxol!

I was on tamoxifen after my initial diagnosis, chemotherpay, surgery and radiation 8 years ago. I tolerated it for about 2 - 3 years and was NED. I then had a reaction and stopped. Then that's when I had mets come back after about a year off of it. Hope that helps. Healing to your Mum.
