Immunotherapy (Keytruda) and COC protocal

Ladies, my immunotherapy starts next week. I am currently on COC protocal. I am taking mebendazole, metformin and statins. Have yet to add the antibiotic. I am wondering if I can continue the meds while on immunotherapy. I have also written to COC and await their reply. While on chemo my doc has asked me to be on a high protein diet and has prescribed a lot of vitamins and probiotics. Look forward to hearing from you.

Hi there

I started the COC drugs shortly after having radiotherapy and felt awful..not sure which to blame so stopped them for now till I feel better

I think the consultant at the COC will be able to advise you whether you ought to continue if you’re starting immunotherapy...I really know nothing about that treatment

I guess a high protein diet will give you energy...I’m sure I ought to introduce more protein into mine as I’m exhausted all the time...I don’t like fish much and eat very little meat so eggs cheese nuts and milk are my staples

It’s so hard to know what to do for the best isn’t it?

Is your oncologist happy for you to be on the COC protocol?.. just wondering

All the best

Hi Barb, I understand from my onco that radiation makes tumors more receptive to Immunotherapy. Sometimes they give low dose radiation before immuno to achieve this effect. Re the COC protocal, my doc was not convinced but was ok with my having statins and metformin albeit in lower doses. Mebendazole he said was o.k. in the prescribed dose of 100 mg as it has minimal side effects. He was not happy with Doxy as he said it can lead to resistance and even a mega colon at some point. He said the side effects of statins and metformin are well known so he has no problem. I told him about Jane's book and he listened intently but appeared unimpressed. He said further studies are needed but if gave me hope he is happy to let me have most of the meds as he feels they will do no harm. Rather he felt at my age I should be having low dose statins !

My oncologist wasn’t happy about the doxycycline either and I see her point

I’m thinking of starting the membendazole first followed by the Metformin and maybe the statins...if I feel rubbish then I’ll know which is the culprit

I’m not a great fan of Jane Mclelland for reasons I won’t go into on here ...I understand the Metformin thing but not too sure about statins...anyway we do as we want...it’s our bodies after all but quality of life is just if not more important imo

All the best

I had just started statins two weeks ago for high cholesterol. I am just reporting that it made my muscles ache all over so I quit it, and most of the pain went away. I only hurt now when I sit in my recliner too long which I consider "self-inflicted" pain. Oh wow, just realized tomorrow you two go to your cabin pre-wedding! Hope you're feeling much better after the infusion. Stay safe and be healed in Jesus name, amen! <3 xoxo

I’ve read that statins cause joint and muscle pain...I’ve quite enough of that as it is!!!... my cholesterol is fine so I’ll reconsider them in the future

Yes off to the cottage tomorrow...I’m less tired today but haven’t done anything strenuous...saving myself for Friday...planning on dancing at my daughters wedding if it kills me....hopefully not lol!!

Love

actually, mental exhaustion is more tiring than physical which you know, and this damnable disease can certainly cause that! congratulations on your daughter's upcoming marriage, may they have a long and happy marriage and may the good Lord bless them abundantly! <3 xo

PS there is no doubt in my mind that you will dance the night away! :)

I would ask my onc about the COC during the immunotherapy. And I would ask before I started in case you need to be free of the drugs before you start the therapy.

I’ve taken a couple of different antibiotics while on immunotherapy without issue and with consent from my doctor.
