I am new here. I am from Canada and am getting faslodex injections monthly. We go to Palm Springs for 5 months in the winter. Just wondering if anyone knows the best way I can keep getting my monthly injections in Palm Springs. Anyone else have this situation? Grateful for suggestions. Thank you. Wishing everyone the very best and God Bless.

Welcome to the best place to be even though no one wants to be here! I’ve got some suggestions but no experience with your problem. I think we might have some Canadian members who might know more than I do.
Anyway...first, I don’t know anything about how insurance works in Canada when you travel. Your biggest problem would be having the cost of your care covered here so I would contact your insurance to ask about that issue. Once that is solved I am sure you could be seen by an oncology practice in Palm Springs. Also ask your oncology practice, they might have someone doing the same thing. Elaine
I am also from Canada. I am not sure about how to get your monthly injection when in Palm Springs.
I have researched extensively to try and find an insurance to cover travel outside Canada. Unfortunately no insurance company will cover stage 4 Mbc. I would love to be able to escape our long cold winters but have resigned myself to being able to travel within Canada only.
If you do have information on an insurance company that will cover travel outside Canada please share.
I have lived your situation, except the Canada part. So, I'll tell you what I have done (except the insurance part.) Start right now finding an oncology office and call them. Explain your situation and that you'll need to be seen there while you're there. One of the first questions they'll have is about your insurance (they'll know more than I do!!!) and they may experience this a lot as a lot of Canadians fly south for the winter. You will have to see the doctor in order to get your shots. You will need to have a complete set of your records sent to them. In the past I have set this up at least 3 months in advance. That's all I know, I think the best resource for how to get the expense covered will be with the office in PS. The good news is that next year when you do it, it will just be a phone call and 1 year of records.
Hi Yvonne,
I am not on faslodex, but I did have a similar conversation with my oncologist about my monthly zoladex injections just over a week ago. When I told her I'm off to America on holiday on 4th September (the day after my next appointment) she said I could always have the injection prescribed and I could have it done while I am abroad so that it does not interfere with my plans. But, like you, the onus would be on me to find a doctor to administer it. I have recently noticed a change to my prescription slip. It now lists zoladex on there alongside letrozole and Adcal D3. Do you have something similar on yours? So when it's time to order a new prescription I just tick what I need.
I've already got it all covered for my holiday, but I would suggest that you contact the nearest doctors in Palm Springs where you will be staying and see what you can do. Hopefully your injections will be covered by travel insurance, but if not you may need to pay out of pocket. I hope this does not interfere with your plans and that you can still enjoy your holiday. Keep us posted on what you find out!
You may have to pay for them (you could have your onco write a letter that you need them monthly), but it may cost you. Going to be hard to find travel insurance for that.
