Has anyone had a problem with fluid in the lung from chemo? I have had an ongoing problem. Friday I had surgery that was supposed to be for a Pleurodesis. Unfortunately my left lung us now fiberous and will not inflate.
Dx Dec. 2012 Stage 4 BC, Remission 2014 - 2015. Mets to Latissimus Dorsi muscle. Stereotatic Radiation May 2016. Radiation did not work - incented my cancer to grow. Have been on chemo again since July 2017. The Doxorubicin IS working andy CA27.29 is down to 73! But now the problem with my lung.

Hi PatSailsbery , I don't know if anyone on here has had that, but yes some chemo can cause fibrosis in the lungs. What are you on? Although pleurodesis is supposed to be good for effusion there's also the option for a catheter to drain the fluid. Has your doc given you any other options? Best to you xoxo
Thank you for your reply. During surgery I did have a pleurex (drain tube) placed. I just got home from the hospital last night. Home health will be coming out to teach me how to drain the fluid.
Great news. Just had my follow-up appointment with surgeon and he said the x-ray shows my lung has improved a lot. It is filling with air and the fluid is minimal (drained 200ml today). It had been one week since my last drain (500ml).
