I notice some people advocate taking magnesium. Does anyone know if it interferes with other medication for instance Warfarin or blood pressure tablets

I used to take it with my warfarin, and I don't remember it affecting it too much. It might be worth giving your warfarin nurse a ring though to make sure.

Hi I have recently started taking Magnesium and it has definately helped to calm down my RLS enough for me to get a good nights sleep. I only take this along with Iron supplements so not sure about Warfarin. I hope you manage to give it a go, it took about 7-10 days before my legs started to calm down and I got some relief. It has helped me but I know it doesn't work for everyone. Good luck.

Hi, thanks for replying and I'm so glad that it helps you. Do you get your magnesium from the health food shops?

I have taken magnesium citrat on and off for many years, but do not anymore. Because

I do not feel any difference. But a GP here at hr

Health centre maintains that magnesium is the only thing that can make RLS better if not disappear. He also gives people magnesium injections. I know of a lady that came to a rehabilition Centre here where I live. She came from Sweden in a wheelchair left walking after being in treatment and going to this doctor. I talked to her and she maiNtains that the magnesium injection made all the difference. I have not tried this,I am meeting my RLS doc on Thursday will ask him about magnesium.

I'd rather not go as far as injections yet, but if you get any more info on tablets I would be interested Thanks

I seem to remember there are two types of magnesium supplement. One is a lot more expensive than the other. I can't remember which is which though.

Hi daisyw I get my magnesium and iron supplements from my local health store, as recommended by my GP. Hope it helps you as much as it does me.

I've only just joined and left my blog this morning 23/1/13. Saw your blog Magnesium and as mine says I'm now on mag phos - I asked the health shop pharmacist if mag phos ok to take with other meds and she told me yes, anything. She has many who swear by it for rls. You may well be a month ahead of me and I'd really welcome your observations in how it's working.

Hi, thanks for replying, but I havent taken any yet. I was just trying to get information. My Doc is busy taking blood samples from me and he's doing a bit of research on RLS, my iron levels are very low and that can exacerbate restless legs. Best of luck, folk on this site are very helpful

Just a quick reminder to everyone, when reading these blogs, take the advice with much discretion, these are random people posting personal experience and not always correct medical facts, someone posted that eating 8 almonds daily is all the Magnesium your body needs, that is not accurate by any rule, no matter who you are!! but also the side efffects and requirments for all Vitamins and Minerals is very personal to a individual's lifestyle, diet, overall health and other medications they might be taken.

This advice is helpful but no one solution works for everyone and in most cases, a Dr. should be talked to before taking suppliments such as these.

Be careful what and how much you take, just because you don't NEED a prescription doesn't make these suppliments safe for your body, do a lot of research and be safe not sorry, consult your doctor about changes to your intake of Magnesium and other such supliments. I also read a post saying if you get Soft stools, it means you have enough Magnesium, this is incorrect also, soft stools and upset stomach are often related to the type of Magnesium you are taken not the amount your body needs!

Be sure to research the right Magnesium type for you and if you have issues with a type, try something else, Magnesium is truely a lifesaver and with proper use, it can change your life in so many positive ways maybe even prevent death by heart attack so, I am saying, look into this suppliment and find the best use and dose for you!

Thanks!
