Compression stockings!!!!!!!!!
Hi Perplexed, just wondering how compression stockings could help RLS? Hmmm I might read up on that one
Most "good" CS's have to be the right fit for your calf etc and in hospital you would be measured for them, if they are the wrong size they may have a negative effect on your legs. Can you make sure they are the correct size if you do try them? other than that, I'm not sure you'd need to see a gp, other than if you have a circulation/blood issue. They could potentially also affect your BP as well. If it's normal you'll be ok
If you have any issues what so ever with circulation vascular or arterial then check with your gp first. If you're not sure check with your gp.
Be interesting to see if they help.
Lots of people use conpression stockings in my groups and they help a lot. And, then again, they do NOT help a lot of people. It is all trial and error, as usual. Do not cut your circulation off. :o) some people like the pressure, and some people don't. rlshelp.org talks abot conprssion stockings on his treatment page.
Hi, I have some to but they made my legs worse and itchy to I think you can not keep them on at night tho ! when I worked in the hospital we took them off people at night times! You must as your doctor just to be safe But give them a try they may help you.
I tried the sports elastic type a few years ago before i was medicated. The tightness seem to help my RLS. But it wore off and i stopped using them.
I didnt see my doctor before trying them. I also used them all night without any problems. As nightdancer says just make sure they are not toooo tight and cut your circulation off.
Hello perplexed, yes i have tried sport compression stocking for the last,
6 weeks, + they do seem to help relive my RLS Symptoms!!!.
The sport compression stocking are not as tight as medical presciped,
by hospital OR G.P,s + for me do not cut off circulation to my legs!!!.
Now with my medication + Magnisuim spray I only use the compresion,
stockings when My Restless legs are at their worst + the meds+spray are,
Not working for me on that night,
I would just give them a go you have nothing to loose!!!, See how you go on,
With them they may just be the ticket for you.
Hi Perplexed. I had to use compression stockings after surgery on my hip and found that they did help with the RLS. The only thing is, as others have said, you have to be measured to get the right fit and I found that I could only use them for some hours at a time, not all night etc.. After awhile I learned to put them on only when the RLS was so severe that nothing else helped. In that situation the stockings took the pressure off. I would keep them on for an hour or two. not more. I think they are well worth a try.
Try dance tights - they're cheap and they work. And you don't have the hassles of medical compression stockings!!!
You don't have to use medical grade compression sox. I find that even a little compression usually relieves my RLS.
Try just wearing dance tights like Capezio or Danskin. They make 'convertible' ones so you can let your toes wiggle ...or your whole foot. They are WAY easier to put on and more comfortable to wear than those medical compression sox. I was prescribed those for varicose veins but they were awful to put on and wearing them longer than an hour or two hurt.
Dance tights come packaged as 'men's' or 'women's' but they're essentially unisex - so just worry about getting the right size for you at the cheapest price. They last a long time! You'd think they're like women's stockings because that's what they resemble, but they seem to be made to be much more durable. You can probably wear them 75-100 times at least
Dance tights have almost totally resolved my RLS. When I forget to wear them or if they're in the wash, my RLS does come back.
Best ones I've found are Capezio #14 or #1862 or #1816, XXL for me (6'1", 190#)
I tried them , didn't help at all im afraid
I will have to look into compression stockings. I'm awake every night with RLS Very annoying. All day I have to wear a strong knee brace as my knee keeps collapsing. When I take the brace off at night RLS then keeps me awake along with my wife. She has recommended tights with elastic in them to keep my muscles firm but being a bloke I don't want to be labelled as kinky. Will tights/pantyhose stop RLS
