Was contemplating getting some compression stockings. Does anyone find they help with their RLS symptoms?

I have some success with wearing them. Not always but I do find that wearing them helps. Sometimes I forget them at night and will wake up early morning with some twitches or slight restlessness and then remember to put them on. Then I can go back to sleep. AS I said, not always but it does seem to help with the slighter symptoms. It can also help with fluid retention which I think can affect the sensitivity of my legs to RL. I buy the compression bandage type tubes rather than socks- I believe its a bit cheaper.

Hi, compression stockings are one of two things I have in my armoury to combat restless legs when trying to sleep. The other is a hot bath. I usually have my stockings on the bed for when the legs wake me in the night. I put them on then and can usually get back to sleep. It seems to be the change in temperature (bath) or pressure (stockings) that settles the legs, at least for a while.

When the legs are really bad neither helps much and I have to get up, go downstairs and wash floors/clean cupboards etc. - pretty miserable!

Good luck. I hope the stockings help you too.

I have had RLS for about 30 years. I have taken ropinirole for most of those years with success. Recently, I have been getting symptoms during the day and some at night. Some have suggested that this is augmentation. I recently overheard a conversation where it was suggested that compression socks could be helpful for RLS. I bought several pair (about $15 a pair on Amazon) and started wearing them during the day. I had read that they should not be worn at night, but to be most effective, they should be worn as soon as you get up and should be worn the entire day. They relieved my daytime symptoms almost entirely and there seems to be a residual effect that carries over into the night, as the symptoms have lessened at night as well. So, yes the socks helped a great deal, though as I mentioned earlier, I also take ropinirole.

I put them on at night if I wake up restless. I find it especially useful to bunch the sock up around the middle of my foot to add extra pressure. Be careful to not fall asleep like that as you could cut off circulation to your toes but it’s a good quick fix for me.

Hi Chubbychubbster,

I haven't tried compression stockings or tights as I find them too warm for me and when my legs get warm!! I get the feelings and kicks can start if I'm not standing.

I hope they work for you,
