Injury prevalence and muscular fatigue with RLS PLMD and cramp/benign fasiculation SYNDROME

just wondered if anyone else seems to suffer tighter muscles, muscles that fatigue quicker and often feel shaky or indeed an increased prevalence of injuries? I’ve noticed since this started I’m much stiffer tighter and pick up weird nightly injuries ??

for context I have RLS and constant muscle twitching/spasms that has been diagnosed as cramp fasiculation syndrome on top of the RL

I was always very active but my exercise tolerance is way less and trying to get back to previous fitness levels leaves me fighting these small frustrating injuries

Any other stories I’d be happy to hear as I’m compiling more research to try and draw some correlations that might help.

also happy to hear from anyone who’s found anything that works.

I do yoga and some gentle walking at the minute as can’t do much more due to a failed hip labrum repair.

I sympathize with you! I have the same . Tight muscles and gets painful when I work out . I used work out regularly in gym and hike mountains. Now max I can do is about 50 minutes on treadmill and in the beginning my legs hurt . After about 30 minutes the pain goes away for the rest of the “walk” I suspect amongst other things (I have Rheumatoid arthritis as well as osteoarthritis in my knees) …. claudication … muscles not getting enough blood flow. I find magnesium spray does help temporarily.

It’s interesting because a friend of mine who is French swears her RLS is circulatory in nature.

She takes a supplement called cyclo3fort which she gets in France which she says helps with the tired muscles and RL.

I’m similar I was a big hiker but since r this started after the doomed hip surgery I’m lucky to do 3 miles on the flat )due to incredibly tight hip flexors that no amount of physio seems able to deal with)

it’s so frustrating but I won’t stop trying. Keep us updated on your progress and all the best in this journey.

my muscles wont relax, i feel like i have been working out in the gym all night, lots of painful areas and burning sensation, had this over four years now plus severe RLS, it is so exhausting

Went to sleep clinic, had RLS for 4 hours, then very weird symptoms, of cramp twisting my foot arm and neck to almost breaking point, also rapid eye movements for ten minutes while awake!

The specialist just said my symptoms were not of any help for a diagnosis, because i never went to sleep i suppose

It’s so frustrating isn’t it I mean there has to be a reason that this manifests in this way with the twisting and cramping but it’s a minefield

I’d just like normal relaxed muscles again

Sorry you are going through this too

I used to get fasticulations and cramps all the time. Fasticulations were usually on my legs, calves and shins. I ride long distance bike rides. 40-200 miles at a time. The feelings are hard to explain, I went through a period of "mud legs". Getting up in the morning my legs would stiffen up for a moment and would be hard to get going.

The first thing that helped was getting my iron stores normalized. So start with a morning fasted full iron panel.

Second step. I am a sauna addict. I do sauna bathing everyday I can. So yeah, sweating is a thing with me. My wife bought this very expensive salt called LMNT. I used it for a month. Now, I make my own. There are a lot of YouTube videos, but basically in every water bottle (I always take 2 * 32 ounces water bottles to the gym/sauna). The ingredients are

1/4 teaspoon salt (with iodine)

1/4 teaspoon potassium citrate

1/2 scoop Magnesium Citrate

This was about 6 months ago I started. I still get cramps but they are in my extremities, like hands and feet. Not in my thigh and stomach. I just feel a lot better.

Don't discount electrolytes especially if you are exercising. Good luck.

brilliant thanks for this I do take electrolytes but might try your blend and have ordered some Celtic sea salt also, my Sicilians are predominantly legs I’m wondering if I’m low in a trace mineral perhaps?
