does benzodiazepines help or hurt restless legs? The doc wants to add one pill at night time and I am already taking Horizant and Suboxone.

It's generally not recommended to take benzodiazepines and opiods (Suboxone) together because of the risk of respiratory depression. I think your doctor (or another doctor) needs to reassess your current regime, not add in benzodiazepines. They're generally used as short term sleep aids for insomnia.

I would ask for a review or see another doctor. Why are you on suboxone AND horizant? Suboxone should work alone.

And why add a benzo?

Is your RLS completely covered by Suboxone?

A small dose of horizant or a small dose of benzo could be added to Suboxone if you have opioid alerting or insomnia.

But adding horizant AND a benzo seems overkill. There is a risk of respiratory depression by adding a benzo.

The doc was hoping to get him settled on suboxone then gradually reduce Horizant. He is only taking 1/8 (.25) of a strip because 1/4 of a strip was causing insomnia and anxiety. We see the doc next week and will hopefully address getting off Horizant slowly. He is not taking the Xanax we decided.

One question. The longer he stays on suboxone, will his body adjust to it and lessen his insomnia and anxiety??

Ah I see.The anxiety should settle as his body adjusts to Buprenorphine. I had severe opioid induced panic/anxiety and added 50mg pregabalin which helped enormously.

Horizant should work similarly as it is a sedating med.

The insomnia is something I have no experience of, but others use a sedating med similar to horizant.

Hopefully he will adjust slowly to Buprenorphine.
