Hi, I am wondering if my pramipexole 0.088mg is the reason I am gaining weight around my hip area / I have not been on these long, about 5 weeks - I have suffered for a number of years and just needed sleep - my husband said if I lashed out and untucked the sheets much more he will tie my legs down / my iron count is about 13 but I do take a supplement too / just wanted some sound advice - cheers

Hi Joanne7011. Well, you guessed it - Mirapex (pramipexole) does have weight gain as one of its side effects. Ugh! As if having RLS wasn't enough...I went to (rxlist.com-mirapex-side effects) and that is where I found some interesting information because I was thinking about getting off of Requip (ropinirole) after 15+ years and switch to pramipexole, but I need weight gain like a hole in the head. I guess I will continue looking at other alternatives. Good Luck!

Hi, Joanne

I posted on another thread that I'm doing a study of weight/Rls/meds relationships. (I daresay some technophile on here will find it instantly!). I'll go and have a look in a minute! If you fancy taking part ...

Joanne, your iron count is way too low for someone with RLS & is highly likely to be why you are suffering RLS. If you keep the pramipexole low and start taking Iron supplements. If you are in the USA they will probably give you an iron infusion.

Your serum ferritin needs to be 100 or more if you have RLS.

I suspect you will be able to stop pramipexole as soon as you get your iron levels up. It's a horrible drug & can cause augmentation ( look it upon here).

Go back to your doctor and explain that your levels need to be 100. A normal person can get away with such low levels but someone predisposed to RLS cannot.
