Hi everyone, so sorry for not replying to all who were good enough to reply to me concerning Cannabis gummies.I didn't get them yet but my question today is about Phenergan 25mg which is what my gp just prescribed for me today,I stressed to him that I have severe RLS and didn't want anything that would eccaserbate the problem so please can anyone tell me about Phenergan 25mg as I've not taken them before.

it's a sedating antihistamine that will make RLS worse.

Awww naw sue,I'm going round in blooming circles, I found the Diazepam helped me but he refused to give me any, went over a load of negatives about it so I thought he obviously hasn't a clue about meds that make RLS worse thankyou .

Zopiclone (Imovane, Zimovane), stilnoct (Ambien, zolpidem, Zolpimist, Edluar, Intermezzo) are some non-benzodiazepine sleeping pills.

I used to take them for sleep as I was a night nurse. I didn't realise at that point that they can cause RLS but soon learnt they did. I'll never touch them again.

Thanks sinor,I feel that it's a waste of time asking for help from my gp ,I come off the phone feeling ,where on earth do I go for a doctor to actually listen to what I'm saying. I didn't even start to take them since Sue told me the same as you did.msy I ask what you consider a safe pill that won't make RLS worse?

I used medicinal cannabis for a while to get me over the worst. It's was a great help to wean from other drugs. I had issues with Pregabalin and the cannabis helped me wean easily without withdrawalsover 4 weeks. I was on quite a high dose. I've used Zolpidem for many years before cannabis but it's incredibly addictive and after a while it just didn't work. I rarely ever was able to dream when on it and my health gradually deteriorated. I got to the point where I just could not fall asleep without it. There's no option to wean off it...it has to be cold Turkey because while ever you have any in your system you can't fall alaeep naturally. It was an awful time. Once off it, despite being tired, you can be awake for several days at a time until slowly you get an hour of sleep here and there and it gradually improves. I tried a few other things but always there were unpleasant side effects. I think Medicinal CBD 6/1 during the day helped my depression at lot when I stopped the Dopamine antagonists and I used medicinal THC 8/1 at night. It was by far the best. You need both for best results and it must be 100% plant based....no synthetics. It was expensive though. I got quite a tolerance for it so had to use more and more. It just got too expensive. I had no issues when I stopped it unlike the big pharma drugs. Its been 3 years now and I just use Melatonin from iherb but I'm having some restless legs issues again. I'm currently trying to work out why by a process of elimination. Magnesium topically is a big part of my bedtime routine. If my legs behave I generally sleep well but its taken a lot to get to this point. Oh I forgot, I did try Clonazipam (Paxam) periodically which worked well but once again you get used to it and need a higher dose and it has a 23hr half life so for a few weeks leaves you dreadfully hung over. But it does help mask the wrestless legs symptoms when you are desperate for some relief so you can sleep. It's addictive though so I didn't use it for long.

As marsha236 says melatonin makes RLS worse for most so that might be why you are having some RLS now.

The melatonin isn't a new med I've just added. I have been on it for many years without issues. I'm getting quite good relief from NAC 1800mg at the moment and working on my iron and a few other possible causes. If I still can't get rid of the RLS completely I'll try eliminating the Melatonin as see how things go. Melatonin is very good for aging brains and has many benefits.

That's great it doesn't bother you and that the NAC works.

N-Acetylcystein (NAC) can help with RLS...?

SueJohnson profile image
SueJohnson in reply toNelsonmonths

It's an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. It is not generally used to help with RLS.

melatonin can make RLS worse

Melatonin is generally prescribed or taken at ridiculous dosages.

The correct dose is approximately 1/10 th of the normally prescribed dose.

I take 0. 2mg. (. Read the Micrograms bit.). Without any effect of RLS.

At doses of 2 mg it might be ok.

But people are taking 5 and 10 mg.

Please be aware that - for melatonin, Less is more.

And stop crying down a valuable medication.

I don't understand your viewpoint-- could you elaborate a bit ,please?

Your response to what I said about melatonin was rude. You replied “stop crying down a valuable medication. “ i feel that was a rude comment.

I think you are getting a bit mixed up? I never said that, and I actually support using melatonin -- but at very low dose and sparingly.

As far as I can see - you have made no comment about melatonin on this post ?

Look back at the feed. I commented as well as Sue. Unfortunately my “name” on this site is also marsha2306. I don’t know why it keeps crossing over. I’ve tried to fix it. Nevertheless the comment to grammieof4 is me also.

Ah- I can see the misunderstanding - My apologies.

Yes - I did make the comment about not crying down a valuable medication -- but the context was about the correct use of Melatonin.

Babies and bathwater stuff.

Anyway-- I'm going to bed now. It's 3.30 am in Ireland and I need to sleep.

Mind yourself. goodnight.💚😎

My last word. You really shouldn’t have said that anyway. It was rude. Good night.

I guess I will be dangled over the edge of the world until I repent because melatonin is on most of the lists of things that can make RLS worse. 🙁

Madlegs1 profile image
Madlegs1 in reply toSueJohnson

Oh - I definitely agree with you.I really want to make the point that most melatonin is prescribed at levels that are way out of date. (( Now where have we come across that problem before now?)

So what I am saying is - that if one tries a dose of 0.2 mg/ ml - literally a drip drop, then that will work to help sleep without causing rls.

I'll pull you up now!😎🥰

I have been on here for a short time, however, I have learned over the past year that if I take Melatonin that I will be up all night, and it's not fun. I did discover Valerian root to help with sleep to some degree with no ill effects. I also discovered that about 10 mg. THC works somewhat but I was getting up because of my BHP and staggering into walls, not to mention the almost incontrollable munchies 😅

What dose of melatonin were you taking?I'll bet it was well over 2 or 3 mg/ml?
