MY REMEDIES FOR MY RLS

I haven't been on this site very often in the past few months... work, life and other things going on but mostly because I finally settled in and started 100 mg of Gabapentin at night and this has helped tremendously. I know 300 mg is the start dosage but 100 mg takes care of 90% of my night symptoms.

I mainly wanted to share a couple of things that I use which have helped me almost as much as the Gabapentin. I can skip the Gaba one night a week and take either 2 motrin OR 2 Tylenol Arthritis pills along with 1 or 2 Tumerin capsules. This takes my aches and pains away (in my elbow and low back from old injuries) AND prevents my restless legs from coming when I lay down for sleep at night.

For me, I see a huge surge in my RLS when my arthritic inflammation is higher. I have a Mediterranean type diet but in the past thrived also on carbs. I have now cut 90% of my carbs out and do not eat carbs at night --- I believe this has helped my inflammation immensely.

My blood lab values are great - I had an iron transfusion 3 yrs ago and lab values have held fine.

My point here is for me I have found that if I can reduce my overall body inflammation, my RLS sx also are reduced by 80-90%.

I appreciate all of the sharing of information here, especially the medical research. May we all continue to hope, pray and share in our search for answers.

Great philosophy to always take as little medication as gives optimum relief.!👍

That's great! So pleased for you. Why not take the motrin or Tylenol every night. You can take it with gabapentin. But not the tumeric.

Not a good idea to take NSID's nightly... possible adverse kidney effects over a long period of time with consistent use.

Good point.

Interesting you mention a NSAID giving you relief. I have taken 200 mgs of tramadol (along with 1200 of gabapentin) at night for as long as I can remember, but rarely the 200 mgs of tramadol doesn't do the trick. I have found that if I take a naproxen I can avoid having to take an extra of either drug (and it helps my arthritis, too 😁).

Yes, Naproxen works too; it lessens the inflammation. Naproxen is very hard on my stomach though so I try not to take it unless I have a very bad flare up in my low back. Then I will take naproxen for maybe 4-5 successive days to get it under control again and I noticed that after about 5 days of Naproxen when my arthritis is not felt, I can completely skip the Gaba for maybe 3-4 nights before starting it again.

Just be careful with the NSAIDs. You should have an eGFR test or renal blood panel checked because these pain meds can be tough on your kidneys. I found out the hard way.

Exactly! That's why I don't take them very often. My renal profile and liver profile is all normal. Thks for the sharing
