Low UIBC result from bloodwork?

Hi, All. I had bloodwork done recently and I'm wondering if anyone knows if the low UIBC might be affecting my RLS/PLMD.

Ferritin was 169 (down from very high values after a blood infusion for rls in April 2021).

The UIBC was flagged as Low at 126, Iron Saturation was flagged as high:

Iron 172

UIBC 126

TIBC 298.0

Iron Saturation 58 %

Any help deciphering whether this is good, bad, neutral would be greatly appreciated!

Since your transferrin saturation is 58% which is high and your UIBC is low, I strongly suggest you see a hematologist about it.

Thank you, Sue! Is that alarming, or what thoughts do you have? I've googled it, of course. I do struggle to get a lot of protein each day, as I don't eat meat.

I think a hematologist is best suited to answer your questions.

Following up to my post, I checked w/ my doctor and she was not worried about these numbers.

Interestingly, she said I need to push my iron intake! So ironic to me, given the higher ferritin number and my RLS issue in general!

Hi Teddi! As long as the iron doesn’t give you side effects, why not listen to doctor?

Hi! yes, I def am. I just wondered what you thought of the posted numbers, the high-ish ferritin, but then I still need to push iron from food (she said)…….and then how ironic a tiny amount of Suboxone film takes care of the RLS. Should I push the oral iron before bed instead.?! Could that possibly change the Suboxone dosage?! Hard to imaging as it’s prob about 1/8 of strip now.
