UPDATE on RLS consultant visit

Well today we went to London to see Dr Dhanjal in Chelsea. He was very helpful and is going to tell our GP to prescribe Buprenorphine Patch (low dose) and hopefully it will help. If not he will look at Oxycodene. Now have to wait for GP to get letter and send prescription and fingers crossed sleep will descend on our home and normal!!! life will resume. Will keep you all informed and I would like to thank all of you for your kind words and help, without this forum I do not think we would have made it this far. 👍🤩

Hi Joolsg, can you tell me what dose of Buprenorphine patch worked for you and does it matter where it goes on the body.

I'm on pills. Dr. Buchfuhrer in the USA advises the pill is better as RLS is worse in evening and night so the pill gives a higher cover for the 10 hours after taking the pill. The patch gives a steady 24/7 dose so is more suitable for constant pain. There are quite a few on the patch and it works well for some. However, it seems to run out before the 5 day course for quite a few. They then ask to switch to the pills.

It may be an idea to speak to Dr Dhanjal to ask whether the pill would be more suitable for RLS which hits worse at night.

Lotte finds the patch better than the pills,so like everything with RLS, what works for one well, may not work for another person.

Some doctors will require this. Did you discuss this with your neurologist? If not you might want to call him/her.

Showed them the mayo clinic report but didn't seem interested in reading it sent me for an mri scan on lower back and a CT scan on my head don't ask me why ! I seen GP last week and spoke to her about different meds and she said she would have to ask neurologist about prescribing them

Hi Nick, if in Uk our GP would not prescribe this, neither did our NHS neurologist we had to go to a private one to get prescribed. Every neurologist seems to be different. Good luck 🤞
