I take 300mg of magnesium citrate for my RLS. Should i take more?
Magnesium citrate. : I take 300mg of... - Restless Legs Syn...
Magnesium citrate.
I initially took 400mg, then moved to 600mg a day, but after a month or two found that 400mg was enough for me (the recommended daily amount on most UK 200mg tablet packaging; interestingly in the US some packaging only suggests 100mg).
I take 200mg at breakfast and 200mg at lunch (because for me 400mg taken at one time causes diarrhoea. Other people will have different tolerances). Some suggest taking it in the evening, but it can then interfere with iron etc absorption. If you're not taking iron or gabapentin timing may not matter.
Holland & Barrett stock both Solgar brand and their own brand: I (and from the reviews many others) find H&B brand difficult because they are not coated and stick to the tongue/throat.
(In the US magnesium (bis)glycinate seems to be the preferred salt: the advantages of this are said to be that it doesn't cause diarrhoea and that it aids sleep. I've not found it here but I presume that it could be found online...)
NOTE: if someone has kidney problems they need to be careful with magnesium: normal kidney function will excrete excessive levels, but dangerous hypermagnesemia can occur in people with acute or chronic kidney disease.
Yes - don't take magnesium within 3 hours of taking gabapentin.
