I just had my 1st lab tests since my restless legs increased last spring. I take ferrous sulfate 3 times a day. My ferritin tested at 557 which needless to say really surprised me.
Has anyone had ferritin as high as 557 - Restless Legs Syn...
Has anyone had ferritin as high as 557
P.S. And I still have anemia.
I'll meet you and raise you!😎I had 1443 at one point. The lab was so concerned, that they rang my doctor after hours, and he got me an appointment immediately with a consultant.
Turns out it was a result of multiple transfusions during a visit to ICU.
I'm down to 140 now after having draculated my blood for a year or so.
What annoyed me most was that ,knowing I'd had major surgery and almost 100 units of blood, the hospital let me home with absolutely no warning to get ferritin tested after a while.
I only got it tested,( much to my doctor's poopooing) to check iron levels for RLS. As advised on this very site!!!!😝😎😍😍😍
Ha!
Ferritin under 1000 is nothing to get too worried about. %saturation is probably more relevant.
Ferritin is affected by inflammation- so if you were ill or had Covid, it could raise the number.
Keep an eye on it over a year and see what the trend is.
Mind yourself.
I wasn't ill nor had covid thank goodness. I am a little concerned though when I read that breast cancer can cause high ferritin levels and I just had a mammogram and they want me to have an ultrasound which I have scheduled for June 16th. My doctor told me to stop taking ferrous sulfate as a result of the ferritin result even though I have borderline anemia.
Mine was around 560 and the PCP did not think it was anything to be concerned about. However, I did scope some bladder cancer surface lesions which were cauterized last week and I am scheduled for some additional treatments. I will have it checked in a few months.
Yes, after an iron infusion my ferritin was in the 600s. It helped my RLS/PLMD about 10%18 months later the ferritin is around 80.
