I have been a member of this site for a long time, I do not write a lot but always read the daily blogs, I have had RLS for over 30 years tried a lot of different pills and patches and find that my current tablets are mostly OK but still have really bad times with my legs, I am extremely worried I have had 3 episodes now of strange happenings, I like doing puzzles but on 2 occasions recently I have found myself pulling it to pieces half way through as if I was on auto pilot before I had finished it, I seem to go in some sort of trance and tonight I was watching the TV with my husband my legs have been very bad tonight kept having to stand and walk around and then all of a sudden I walked over to the TV and turned it off and picked up the tea mugs as if I was getting ready to go to bed but I did not know I was doing it, I was completely unaware of what I was doing and it was only my husband saying why have you turned off the TV it seemed like I was coming out of a trance, it is really hard to explain and I am really worried about it, could it be long time effects of the medication does it make you go brain dead also my memory has got a lot worse lately, I take .52 mirapexin and 600 gabapentin daily also 2 iron tablets and 2 co-codamol to go to bed with to try and get some sleep. Has anyone else had this happen to them ?

Mirapex does have odd side effects reported by a number of people. It may also be a factor of combining a number of fairly heavy medications and them interacting.

I have heard of your experience from people taking certain sleeping pills, but that doesn't seem to be the case with you.

It might be worth talking to your pharmacist. They can look up side effects and combos, or contact the manufacturers directly.

Good luck. And it is important enough to be investigated.

Hi Madlegs1

Thanks for the advise, I am going to make an appointment with the Doctor, I think my medication needs to be altered. I certainly do not want any more of these episodes.

Thanks again

I feel for you. NO, that hasn't happened to me. RLS is a terrible malady and anyone who hasn't experienced it cannot possibly understand how it makes you feel. Last night I forgot to take my normal 5 mg of tramadol and finally at 3;45 a.m. I went downstairs and got a pill and within a few mintues, my legs and arms ! (yes my arms - which was incredible) stopped having to be shook like a wild woman. I pray that there will be a cure for this problem. It is a real problem.

This must have been an awful feeling! Sane words from Madlegs. To add to his advise, if you go on to alter or reduce your medicines, the first one you should look at is the Mirapexin. If you indeed read the daily posts, you know why. I hope your weird experiences do not return, but it never hurts to have a critical look at your medicines.

I have no further advice but empathise with these scary developments. Maybe coming off the DA and taking just opiods wouls help.x

From Wikipedia "Common side effects include nausea, headache, feeling tired, trouble sleeping, dry mouth, and hallucinations." Dopamine Agonists have a distinct effect of increasing impulse control issues - overeating, gambling, etc. Your strange behavior could also be a symptom of augmentation. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prami...

I'd go along with Madlegs view.

Your experience sounds like what I'd call a disturbance of consciousness or "oneroid" state, a sort of waking dream and/or a loss of "attention" in the sense of being unable to focus our awareness on things.

When that happens we may find ourself doing things "without being aware of them" , misplacing things or forgetting things. Any of your medications, or more likely the combination could cause this.

Our ability to pay attention.and be selective about what we attend to is affected by physiological factors.

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a demonstration of this. Guess what, dopamine dysfunction has been associated with ADD.

Similarly, schizophrenia where sufferers aren't able to selectively attend to things either.
