I'm new here. I have been diagnosed with RLS and PLMS. It's great to see there are so many of you who are knowledgeable about these subjects. Took ropinirole for a short while, but thought it was making it worse, so weaned myself off it. have found that a weighted blanket helps me quite a bit.
Here's hoping for rest for all.

Hi. A weighted blanket is a blanket with weights sewn into it. They are widely used in those with autism and other sensory disorders, but are great for other things as well (ex. I use mine for anxiety and for calming smaller RLS attacks).
Here is the website I got mine from: sensorygoods.com. This website recommends that your weighted blanket be 10% plus 1 lb of your body weight; other sites might have different weight recommendations.
I also love my weighted blanket. When I was purchasing I read comments from people with RLS who recommended going much higher than the 10% body weight. I am a 105 lb and bought the 20 lb. I now wish I bought 25 lb and double my 20 lb one. The first time I put it on me, however, it felt like it was going to crush me. It takes about a week to adjust to. It now feels light on me. The biggest drawback it that I can’t sleep without it and I can’t exactly carry a 20 lb blanket with me out of town.
I would try a cheaper one first, I think it depends on if you sleep on your side back or stomach. It feels great if I don’t have Rls but if I do, I can’t move my legs under the weight and it makes my rls worse. I often sleep on my stomach and the weighted blanket dones horrid ache on my back the next day.
That makes sense. Sometimes I wonder if I should’ve gotten a heavier one since I can only calm smaller attacks with the one I have. Bigger attacks and my legs just move anyway. Do you find the heavier weight really restricting or does it help calm even your more intense attacks? I’ll probably have to stick with the one I have, though, since they aren’t cheap. It never fails in the anxiety department 🙂
I also had tried too many things before I discovered how helpful weighted blankets were. Honestly, I had no idea how important it is to sleep on high-quality bedding. I'd been fighting insomnia for years before I bought a new mattress, pillows, bedding sheets, and a blanket. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews of weighted blankets on sommio.co.uk/KnittedWeighte... . My friend recommended such a blanket to me. So I decided to order it for myself. I have no idea how it works, but it does help to relax. Maybe it works only on me. Has anyone else tried weighted blankets? What do you think?
