For those that may not be near a sleep specialist see if there are any Hematologists ( blood Dr’s) in your area. Mine is very knowledgeable on RLS.

...and the Ferritin and Vit D levels......?
Yes very much so. He actually found my ferriten was non existent when he was following my labs during breast cancer & immediately ordered an iron infusion.
Hi Zbirth1, you don't need a hematologist to check your iron and vitamin D levels. It is a very standard blood test that any MD can order. True you want those levels to be normal but also true too high can be toxic with consequences and also true that chasing your serum iron level is the latest attempt to find the etiology of RLS. What is also true that too low of serum iron is not the etiology of RLS. It is not the cause any more than low magnesium, high glutamate, too much caffeine , sugar or gluten is the cause. Glad your doctor is so knowable. What is he doing and have you improved significantly? A sleep center checks you for sleep apnea but that is not RLS. There are other conditions which are known to give you RLS such as pregnancy and kidney failure. Most of the voices on this forum have primary RLS. With all that said, you may feel much better if your iron and vit D levels are normal. Keep us posted.
I was surprised to find that there is a relationship between sleep apnea and RLS. The Monash sleep clinic thought of a sleep test for sleep apnea as the first thing to do. I guess if you have sleep apnea which is causing the RLS then they have a treatment for the sleep apnea and that will cure your RLS so it might be just as justified as testing for low ferritin.
