Was just reading a post from the Parkinsons Movement side of Health Unlocked regarding the use of Mucuna root. I took myself off of Mirapex and use Mucuna Puriens for my dopamine needs, Valerian Root and melatonin for sleep. Anyone else using supplements rather than pharma y?

No doubt all of those natural medicines will do well if the disease has not progressed too far, but it is doubtful that it will do in the long term if the condition is familial and progressive.
Mucuna contains natural l-dopa, so while it can help with the symptoms, perhaps there is a chance that it will cause augmentation. Providers caution against taking it long-term without regular breaks - three weeks on, one week off, something like that. The equivalent of a 'drug holiday'.
Dopamine and melatonin oppose one another - so melatonin supplements are contra-indicated for those who do not have sufficient.
It seems a bit of a tangle to unpick all of this ......
If it works, wonderful.
But be prepared for it not to work over a long period.
