Antidepressant : Hi just wanted to know... - Restless Legs Syn...
Antidepressant
Hi, I take trazadone, they don’t have any effect with rls.
I've tried Prozac, Citalopram, Cymbalta, Mirtazepine and Trazadone, (damn I didnt realise the DR had foisted so many of them bloody things on me), and EVERY oneof them within 3-4 days made things 10 times worse. I think you should know very quickly if your body will tolerate them and if not stopping makes it go away quickly.
IF the antidepressant is needed but you can't tolerate them, (I am not sure why the GP was trying to get me to use them as I was never depressed at that stage - have become depressed since and no offer of drugs ), then seek out alternatives if you cannot take the prescribed ones - St John's Wort for example.
IF your depression is reactionary - MY wife/husband/dog/goldfish is sleeping with my neighbour/friend/MP/president of the USA then it can be sorted, (obviously problems such as a traumatic death will take longer to heal). If it is a low grade pervasive thing that has hung around you for years it could be a lot harder to treat but a course of antidepressants should lift you to the point where you can work on coping strategies and the like and improve your mood that way.
I wont go into it all here but things such as diet, exercise, hobbies, work, family, friends and goals all play a bigger role in helping (curing) depression than antidepressants (treating symptoms). Too many are given anti'D's and left like that in a numbed vacuum awaiting proper relief - without the other elements I have mentioned they are very unlikely to come out of the depression, (unlikely but not impossible). I wont even mentioned that the studies into the efficacy of anti'D's was carried out by the drug companies that made them!!!
Depression is a multi faceted illness that is kept alive by antidepressants - treating the symptoms instead of the problem is never a solution but it keeps money in the coffers of Big Pharma.
Good luck.
Wellbutrin is an antidepressant that doesn't often aggrevate rls. I always know by day 3 if a medication is going to be a no go... day 4, at the latest.
Trazodone has NO effect, good or bad, on RLS.
it's a mild sleep aid only. has NO effect on RLS. good luck!
