Hi,
Does anyone else have these hypnic jerks? Just as I'm falling asleep I can feel a sensation brewing in my legs...then bang...it's like getting an electric shock! I've never had them before but have heard of them. Just wondering if there's a connection between RLS and them.

Well I certainly get the sensation building up in my legs & then I often get "jerked" out of sleep just before I fall into proper sleep. I do think it's linked to the RLS because once I've been tortured awake, proper RLS starts up in one leg or the other.
I get the hypnic jolt quite often - and regard it as a good sign for a deep sleep.
But can't say I relate it to rls. That is more often due to food triggers in my experience.

I am plagued with them. I can sleep on my back but some nights I know if I try to sleep on my back I am just nodding off then what I describe as the spasms come. I think myoclonic jerks is another term. Do you suffer from Periodic Limb Movement Disorder?

thats how my rls starts, a slight twitch then they start going everywhere,the trick to mine is getting it right with meds,
Yes, I get them bad. They go hand-in-hand with the RLS. Sometimes I don't know which is worse the jerking or the RLS. I describe the jerks as a cough without the cough, or a laugh without the laugh, or a sneeze without the sneeze. Sometimes it's one strong jerk and other times it's a series of smaller jerks right in a row.
I have rls and it hits my like you discribed,usually early evening and I take Myrapex with positive results but is known to worsen symtoms sometimes until introduction to your body is complete I guess. Also have upper and lower sever agitation seperate at times, all at once on bad nites. 3 tabs with otc pain/sleep med.Just maintaining, every nite is a battle to get abit of rest. Symtoms so bad cant sit let alone sleep. Usually fall asleep around 4 a.m. from exhaustion then get up and head to work. Tired, groggy, cranky, its a shitty disease. Good luck,hope this sheads some lite on you situation.
You might be having augmentation symptoms. Type it on the search and read please. You might need to decrease your dosage to get better.

Thanks,been messing with dosages time I take it etc. Took all mood pills,zanax lirica, (have r.a. also ) opiates for pain but stopped all those for just heart meds,and Myrapex (genericpramipixoel). .025 tabs 2 at 5p.m to preempt symtons then 1 more w otc pain /sleep aid. Just barely managing symtoms but no better rx has been available. Relief from physical symptoms 75% but insomnia is main side effect. Go figure. Been trying to sinc for last 8 yrs and have gotten to a semi-predictable routine. Still ruining my life alas.
Yes i get both all the time, most of the times its the jerking that keeps me awake and secondarily the RLS, since after 10 jerks i totally feel awake and then RLS is even worse.
