Copper Bracelets as a Cure?

MumofSam profile image
20 Replies

I've just seen this advertised on FaceBook, with the following link:-

halcyonbracelets.com/

I have no idea if they work (or even how much they cost as I've not looked at it that closely). Just really interested on everyone's take, if anyone's tried them and if they do indeed work? Seems a bit too easy to me?

Cheers.

There is not a cure for RLS. Copper is not going to help with RLS, RLS is neurological. As with any of these type of products, they can be a placebo affect which is ok if those who use them find that they help.

Hi MumofSam

Postings about the bracelets have been brought up, 9 months and 7 months ago. If you would like to read the threads they are listed under Related Posts at the top of the page.

At last years RLS-UK AGM one of the questions asked from the audience was "Some people have claimed wearing copper bracelets, bandages or other such devices has reduced the severity of their symptoms. Is there any clinical evidence to support these working? Dr. Julian Spinks replied, "There have been claims over many years of copper bracelets and magnets helping many things. These could only work if copper was actually entering the system, and even then the amount of copper being absorbed would be too small to make a difference."

Everything is on the net. Googled copper and RRS and found this

Iron and Copper

Both iron and copper deficiencies are also linked to common sleep problems, especially RLS. A study led by James R. Connor, PhD, at Penn State University College of Medicine, discovered that low iron concentrations in the brain likely play a role in causing RLS and that many RLS sufferers can benefit from iron supplementation.

Even if you’re getting your iron, you need copper to put it into action. Without enough copper in your diet, the majority of your iron intake remains in your liver instead of being used to produce hemoglobin. Over time, this lack of copper can cause iron-deficiency anemia (even if you are consuming adequate iron) and lead to a low brain iron concentration, which again can lead to RLS. You can have your doctor check for an iron and copper deficiency. If you aren’t getting the DRI for iron (8 mg/day for nonvegetarian men and postmenopausal women; 18 mg/day for premenopausal women) and copper (1 to 2 mg daily for both men and women), your doctor may suggest short-term supplementation or just advise you to increase your intake of certain iron and copper-rich foods like beef, liver, pork, kidney beans and cooked spinach (iron) and various seafood, such as clams, oysters and shrimp (copper).

I would have thought copper was poison. But it sounds like theirs copper pills and copper in food. Might be cheaper then jewlry?

It is not the copper bracelet that works it is two red marbles and a buckeye in your left ft pocket that works….lol Can the copper bracelet, It doesn't work. I try smearing monkey dung on my legs if that worked. Come to think about it i never tried Monkey dung---oh well.

You're supposed to put the buckeye in your RIGHT front pocket! (LOL)

I've told you before the copper braclet is useless, what you need is two buckeyes in your right front pocket and to be real effective ad a red marble to the pocket cure---lol

They try to capitalize on our suffering and the remedies that do help are the placbo effect. You think it works so it works. Self delusions are common. If you want to stop restless legs, body etc, you'll need a prescription drug that parkinson's patients use.

You have a shortage of Dopamine and you either get a substitute such as opiates, real or synthetic, or a dopamine Agonist, that helps us with the available dopamine preservation and keeps our receptors stay full of dopamine or a substitute.

Repeat--don't fall for the ghimics and sthuff.

I have to tell you that I have not been booted off this forum I choose generally to ignore the lies and slander that is posted about me and Halcyon Bracelets. But this time nightdancer I feel you have gone too far. Lie no 1 ...you do not happen to know that I am giving more refunds than sales..how would you possibly know that.? That is completely untrue! Lie no 2...I do not say that my copper bracelets are special..I say they are the purest copper you can buy and they are the only ones that have worked for me. Lie no 3 (which makes me so so cross as a RLS sufferer myself all my life but badly for over 35 years) is that I am pretending to have RLS. How could you sit there and type all these lies. I hope people can see that you are a fraud. My biggest mistake was to come to this forum to help fellow sufferers and not appreciate that is was inappropriate in my niavety. So I walked away from commenting. Since then hundreds of people are benefitting long term from the bracelets one of which was recently on BBC Radio Nottingham and hundreds have sent in testimonials. I know I am helping people with this horrid condition and that you are not. All you are doing is trying to steer people away from trying something that could potentially give them the relief they so deserve. I also now have the recommendations from a neurologist.....I rest my case....

First before I say anything, I suggest you read the post above by kaarina who is the 2nd in command here, only 2nd to the Chairman of the RLS-UK Foundation. DR. Julian Spinks is only one RLS expert who has the VERY same opinion, and the facts to back it up.

Nightdancer has helped and still is helping people around the clock, day in , day out and all completely free of charge!

You are right sjarvo. Maybe copper bracelets dont work for everybody -don't know why but they have certainly worked for me. I have had absolutely no symptoms of any kind for

four months now. Absolutely amazing :)

Well, I have not rested my case, and this proves it. I need not ay anything else, but this lists the advertising rules that you need to read sjarvo, because they say they contacted you, and while yes, the refunds are being made, some people have a strong placebo effect. I m just going to post this link, and don't ever say I am not helping people. have done so on this group, on FB, and also yahoo for TWENTY yrs and I have over 5,000 people. I rest MY case........... have you changed your ads to conform to the standards listed in this official report?? This is from the Advertising standards Authority in the UK. asa.org.uk/Rulings/Adjucati... citing the specific rule-"the ad breached CAP CODE (Edition 12) rule 3.1" and that is only one rule that I have listed. Do not ever say to me that I and my team do not help people. That is a lie, and I have a team, and we are busy little people. To post this again on this web site must be that you have been notified of your "breaches of trust" in advertising. I know tons of people after 20 yrs of HELPING people with RLS and other sleep disorders and am backed by several reputable neurologists and RLS experts who have done all the research. That is all. over and out! I have nothing else to say to you. The web site says it all.

As I have posted on another thread where these 'miracle cures' are:

Copper does have anti-bacterial effects hence hospitals now using it in their equipment. Colloidal Silver also has antibacterial effects but as far as I can ascertain neither have any reason to work on RLS. Can you post a link with research into their effectiveness please?

I think the 'hidden' poster needs to realise that you wear these bracelets not eat them!!! Yeas we need some copper in our diet, more info here:

nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/enc...

but we get it through eating the correct things not wearing them. If wearing was good enough I would have plenty of cotton in my system!!!

And Windwalker its not "two red marbles and a buckeye in your left ft pocket that works" its a bar of soap man you people!!! :p

SJAVO, Nightdancer's link doesnt work but this one does. I believe this is regarding your bracelets and your website.

Just noticed your post:)I tried the copper bracelets. Have been wearing one on each arm for about three months now and have not been bothered by

RLS since. Its like a miracle! Seems like they dont work for everybody though but certainly worth a try. You can buy them cheaply on amazon.

rlxcden profile image

Copper bracelets do work. there is a technical explanation a couple of post down. its about how the body needs copper to enable the absorption of iron. You can buy ordinary copper bracelets on amazon quite cheaply. Sometimes the simplest remedies are the best.:)

Hi rlxcden

At an RLS-UK AGM a couple of years ago, one of the questions asked from the audience was "Some people have claimed wearing copper bracelets, bandages or other such devices has reduced the severity of their symptoms. Is there any clinical evidence to support these working?

Dr. Julian Spinks replied, "There have been claims over many years of copper bracelets and magnets helping many things. These could only work if copper was actually entering the system, and even then the amount of copper being absorbed would be too small to make a difference."

Some people say they do find the bracelets work or help but generally they do not suffer with severe RLS. If some sufferers find the bracelets work it is the placebo effect. Nothing wrong in that. If it works for some and for you that is good news.

Hey.....I'm not sure 100% yet, but I think I accidentally resolved my RLS. I bought some copper shin pads to help me with shin splints when running. I'm 45 and started running again. Anyhow, I ordered the cheapest pair off of Amazon, I received them and tried them on. They felt so good...I ended up sleeping with them. Have not even tried running with them as of yet. I did use them at night and ended up sleeping with them. What happened? ......I had the best rest in the past 10 years. So much I fact, I have decided to wear them the past week. I have been wearing them to bed for 7 days now and can I cannot believe how easy it has been for me to fall asleep. To be honest, I'm embarrassed to admit it. I figured I would wait a week more to tell anyone else......but honestly felt that I could not keep to myself any longer. I strongly recommend that u give it a try.
