I have just ckd my last set of blood test results and my Serum Ferritin was 301 so not low. I take 2 tablets every day anyway as I suffer from lack of absorbtion of iron. This was tested many years ago as I was contstantly anaemic and so have remained on this ever since. As I understand it the iron level in the brain is/can be different to a normal ferritin reading but have no real knowledge of this.
I am also suffer from migraines, I wonder if there is a link? That would be an interesting study for someone to see what % of migraine sufferers also have RLS!
In the meantime I will just have to wait for my scan results to see if it shows anything.
It is fairly well established that RLS is a dis-regulation of iron and dopamine IN THE BRAIN. So, total Iron, Ferretin, % saturation are all related indices - but the void is in the brain and that is very hard to measure. I wouldn't supplement with iron without good medical advice. There is a condition call iron overload that can develope. Much more on this web site. irondisorders.org/iron-over...
I also suffered from migraine for many years and RLS for over 60 years. They are thought to be linked. Just look up "migraine and RLS link" and there are many web sites showing this.
