Sleeping better

I only discovered this forum and other sites last week after watching the Channel 5 programme. I thought I was one of few who suffered RLS! Anyway it opened up the discussion and, after putting it on Facebook that I suffered from this, my nutritionist friend recommended Magnesium with Calcium every night before bed.

I was sceptical but decided to buy a small bottle. I have to say the improvement was almost instant from the first night. I had less and less symptoms and have slept so much better. Upped it to 2 a night now to see if I can eliminate completely. Here's hoping!

That’s great! Long may it last!

Thanks for posting Debbie and so glad your symptoms have abated with magnesium. Many people find relief with it so it is a genuine remedy. The other thing to look out for is your iron levels. There is a strong link between low iron and RLS (in most sufferers - there is a minority for whom it is irrelevant). You should get a serum ferritin rest at your GP and make sure that give you the actual figure - very often they just tell you you are ‘normal’. This can be as low as 20 and RLS sufferers should aim to get levels over 100. Many US experts now treat by giving intra-venous iron and many sufferers have an excellent outcome with this.

Thanks. I just phone surgery to ask my actual result and it was 157 so clearly I have good iron levels!!

Wow that’s great. I wish I could get mine that high. I am trying to get my GP to give me an infusion. Do note that in RLS sufferers iron tends to leach away - they think this may be a key to what causes the disease - so check your levels from time to time especially if you notice symptoms returning.

I hope your relief lasts and lasts. It is amazingly uplifting to hear of people getting respite.

Go Debbie

Can you give us details of the dose of magnesium and Calcium? Does it say on the label what the compound is that contains the two metals? for example is it magnesium oxide or magnesium biglycinate etc Come to think about it the brand name would be a better starting place.

Cheers Graham

Another thing you may like to try, if you eat o lot of gluten from various sources, is to try to reduce it. I reduced mine for other reasons, and a few months later I realised that I was sleeping much better than I had for years.

Be careful of upping the magnesiun oxide to much, in high doses it has a laxative effect.
