When I went to bed last night I found that my patch had come off. I think it happened at 10.30am and noticed this at 11.00pm. I move the patch location every 14 days and have never had this problem before. Is it best to stick some tape over the patch or should I just stick to the patch adhesive?(unintentional pun). It is the 2mg one so a bit bigger

Neupro patches
The problem you will face is an ahesive over the top can irritate your skin, there is no best solution or recommended advice on this its kind of what you feel is best how are you with adhesives on for 24 hours etc. I know myself it can be a nightmare to find where to put the patch let alone keep it on.
Personally I wouldn’t add more irritation to your skin it will mean you have less places to put the patch and it may cause you to naturally itch so you accidentally scratch it off. I know they’re a nightmare they need a better delivery system in my opinion.
Hi,
I use the neupro patch as well. You need to change location every day instead of every 14 days. The 14-day rule is the one where you have to wait 14 days before using that location again (for example, if you have it in one location on your shoulder, you can't use thst location again for 14 days). Also, make sure the site you put in on is clean and dry and, when first putting it on, you have to press it down for several seconds (I hold it down for 20 seconds). I initially had problems with itchiness at the site, but I have since discovered sites that aren't so itchy.
Hope this helps,
Thanks Jess. I hadn’t explained myself properly. I carefully move the patch location every day and repeat the cycle every 14 days. I even have a body map to guide me and even have an assistant who sticks them on! Fortunately when I moved on to 2mg I had some of the smaller patches left so may need these due to overlooking the need to get some more 2s! I didn’t suffer any ill effects with the patch coming off.
Yeah, I thought maybe that was the case, but wanted to make sure🙂
BTW, if we could somehow find a way to keep them on better that would help, wouldn't it? I find mine peeling at the sides and crinkling a lot of the time. It's really annoying!
Oh, another thing. (Sorry, but keep thinking of them):
Do you put any on your torso? I used to and they would itch uncontrollably. Someone suggested that that is probably due to the fact that we sweat a lot in that area.
Spot on Jess that’s why the peel and crack. Additionally it is the body part that moves in the most ways walking requires your torso standing up, getting out of bed means the skin gets stretched so it’s easily peeled off. Whilst they say put it on your torso in reality it’s not very practical.
Hi Chris,
Although I now place the patch anywhere but my torso, they still peel and crinkle. Does that happen to you? Any suggestions regarding that?
Take care,
Your arm/ near shoulder is a good area, and towards your back. There should be a leaflet with the medication which has a diagram, just think logically with it. Sometimes I would forget they were ok until I had a shower. Water and patches = itching
Thanks😀
I also use Neupro. I received advice on this site about a couple of companion products that will make your Neupro use so much easier.
First one is called “Compound Tincture of Benzene” this is a liquid that you apply to your skin. It makes your skin slightly sticky, so the patch sticks better. I have 2 versions of it, one is a little bottle, which I dabb a q-tip into and then rub it on spot where I will place the patch. The second form is individual “swabsticks”, which I use when I away from home. They are individually sealed, meant for 1 use, but I can get more than 1 use out of it.
Second product is equally helpful, “Tegaderm Film”. This is a patch to go over your Neupro patch. It is almost invisible and makes your Neupro not have to fight so hard to stay on. The real medical use for this film is cover wounds to let them breathe, but keep them dry. That is the goal here, to keep the Neupro patch dry and applied.
So between the two, I do not have issues with my patches coming off, unless I am digging a trench in 115deg weather, or similar sweaty activity, like getting married.
I have used the 1mg and am now on the 2mg patch and both worked with the 1 3/4sq inch or 4,4sq cm for those metric types.
Some of the best advice I have received.
Thank you for the advice!! The film sounds good. One of my health professionals mentioned that I try and look for something to hold the patch in place. Just looked online and found these at the pharmacy in town, so will go get some now..
Thanks again😀
Here is a link to the film I bought on the internet. Might be less expensive.....

Hi I had the patches for a year, starting with 1 mg and then 2mg then 2 mg they only worked on my upper back, I had to put tape over them as they didn’t stick, I had a bad reaction to then my skin blistered Especially in the Sun and very itchy. I was given steroid cream, bet it got worse. I Exhausted all the meds’ from the doctor.
I was referred to the hospital and was given Codeine I still had to go to my dr as these weren’t working and he gave me Sedatives to take as well, they did work for awhile but now I feel they are not working as well as I’m still getting up in night with the Fidgets and falling asleep during the day.
Geez, I'm sorry for your troubles! That's annoying! Are you still on the patch? If so, I'm going to go buy that film that Oneinfiniteloop mentions and I can let you know how it goes. Or are you going to switch meds.?
Since they say not to expose the patch to direct sunlight, I'm very careful not to do this. Also intense heat. When I went to the pool (can't do that anymore☹️), I would take the patch off because I knew I would be getting into the hottub and going to the sauna.
Sending the nighttime sleep Gods your way,
Hi. I am on 2 mg Neupropatch and clean my skin with Micellar cleansing water ( available in Boots, Tesco and Sainsbury's) before putting on my patch at about 4 pm. Then I smooth the edges really well and then hold it for 20 seconds, which seems to work well. If ever it comes loose a bit which might be the next day, I just stick a plaster over it. My neurologist recommended Monday right upper arm, Tuesday left upper arm, Wednesday right inner arm, Thursday left inner arm, Friday right upper body, Saturday left upper body, Sunday lower upper body (below breast) and start again on Monday, and not to worry too much about the 14 days. Mine hardly itch. I do take Clonazipam as well at night which helps with the sleeping. Hope that helps. Fay
Thanks Fay.
