Hi Rish, interesting question, i used to use the patch, i am having a break from it right now. But i cant say i found any dud ones. Maybe you need to inform the chemist, they cost alot of money, so if dud ones are coming from the manifacturer, it needs to be addressed...
Hi Rish, I also used the patch but I thought it made me tired during the day... I also may have had other issues that made me tired as well (i had rotary cuff problems unbegonst to me)... I never had a bad patch---heat can denature them... Can you tell me how you are feeling during the daytime, please, since i may have to go back on it... requipp has augment... Also if any other side effects occuring? weight gain? How much are you on? thx
If you think they are damaged in any way, take them back to your chemist. IT could also mena that the patches just do not work all the time like any other RLS med. You never know. Nothing works 100% of the time. BUt, if they look funny to you show them to someone.
I also find when my back is playing up, whihc is almost every day, that is exactly where MY personal RLS starts-lower back, and/or hip twinges. One hip twinge means run for the meds for me, or it will be a night of hell.
Hmm. Very strange! Can't say I've never had a problem with mine and I've had them for over a year. Presumably you and the pharmacist are keeping them in the fridge? I agree with the others - worth checking with your pharmacist because they cost about £100 a box so they really should be ought to be ok!
Hi all thank you for your comments, yes I keep them in the fridge but I just thought it strange that a few packets I have had there has been a few duds in them! I will take them back thank you
hI: i WAS TALKING TO MY DOC THE OTHER DAY AND TOLD HER THERE WERE TWO OR THREE DIDNT STICK. SHE SAID SHED REPORT IT TO THE COMPANY. I HAVE ALSO TAKEN HOT BATHS AND WRAPED A MATERIAL AROUND THE PATCH AND THEY HAVE STUCK. SO THAT'S ALL GOOD
Neupro patches contain the active ingredient rotigotine, which is a type of medicine called a dopamine agonist. Rotigotine works by mimicking the activity of a substance in the brain called dopamine.
Dopamine is a substance known as a neurotransmitter. Neurotransmitters are found in the brain and nervous system and are involved in transmitting messages between nerves. These messages allow the normal functioning of the body. The neurotransmitter dopamine is known to be reduced or absent in the brains of people with Parkinson's disease, and this is thought to be the cause of the disease symptoms.
Dopamine normally transmits messages by stimulating specific receptor sites in the brain. Rotigotine works by stimulating these same receptor sites. This produces the same effects as dopamine, and acts as a dopamine substitute. In this way rotigotine helps to restore the dopamine activity in the brain, which helps reduce the symptoms of Parkinson's disease.
Rotigotine can be used by itself or in conjunction with levodopa to treat Parkinson's disease, and is particularly useful in people for whom levodopa alone is no longer providing adequate control of symptoms.
Rotigotine is also used to treat restless legs syndrome, which is characterised by severe discomfort in the legs and difficulty in sleeping. It is not fully understood exactly how rotigotine helps to relieve this condition.
Rotigotine can cause a drop in blood pressure when you first start treatment, and this may cause dizziness or fainting. To minimise the chance of this and other side effects, the dose of rotigotine is increased slowly when treatment is started. Follow the instructions given by your doctor or pharmacist.
Neupro patches are designed to be changed every 24 hours. The rotigotine is absorbed through the skin from the patch and into the bloodstream at a continuous rate and this provides a steady level of the medicine throughout the day.
I haven't tried the patches myself but take Ropinerole, However, I usually have a few good days when the tablets work well and then a few really bad days when nothing works for longer than a couple of hours. I have on occasions considered that I've been given dud tablets but the pattern is quite predictable now,
