Hi all, as previously posted I weaned myself off 2mg neuro patch over many months and two months ago I was finally free of the awfu drug. Most of my daytime symptoms have vanished since then which were caused by augmentation and I haven't replaced the DA with any other drug as I tried most of them in the past and side effects were too severe. My nighttime rls is unrelentingly noe. I had a video consultation with my neurologist yesterday and I asked her if I could occasionally use a half mg patch, I have two important events in the next two months and would love to have a night's sleep before each one. Advice much appreciated on possible harm this could do, if any.

Never ever go back on dopamine agonist. It will simply damage your D1 dopamine receptors.

If you need occasional help- 60mg codeine or 50mg tramadol or 10mg oxycodone would be much better.

And RLS rarely disappears.

That only happens if iron deficiency is the cause and you have success from iron infusions.

You will probably need medications. Either pregabalin or gabapentin. Or a low dose, long half life opioid.

Unfortunately I've tried these in the past, not opioids, and the side effects have been dreadful, I would never go back full time on DAs but I'm just thinking a few nights in the year wouldn't do any harm, I presume

Any use of a DA fires up the dopamine receptors creating that hyperexcitability. Experts believe they cause permanent damage. But obviously- it's your decision.

Opioids would be better. 60mg codeine as needed would probably resolve the RLS when needed.

Thanks for that, it's such a dilemma, I will have to think on it

If you are just using it for 1 night, there is no reason why you can't. Even the Mayo Updated Algorithm says this.

That's interesting, it would be good to have it for rare occasions without the fear of augmentation
