Is there a correlation between Mirapex, Lyrica and alcohol abuse?
I'm in recovery myself. But found that when I was finally weened off of my Pramipexole prescription (for RLS) maintaining sobriety was a breeze by comparison.
I still suffer from occasional RLS flair ups and use CBD oil with a fair amount of success. As well as maintaining a high ferritin level iron perscription.
Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience or knows of a good research article?

Damn I had a whole spiel done then managed to loose it
Firstly congratulations on your sobriety long may it last and may your life be everything you need it to be.
There can be problems with Lyrica in the same vein as cannabis or diazepam - it can lower your motivation, (in fairness I don't experience that with cannabis, I actually get motivated with it), which in turn can lower your chances of sobriety.
Getting and staying sober take effort, people need work, hobbies and to connect with others, (according to Mesa Grande research - ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/119.... If you are 'chilled/stoned' on these drugs people are less likely to do the things they need to stay sober.
The Mirapexin can cause impulse control disorders - many ruin their lives by gambling or shopping away their money or loose relationships trying to have sex with everything that moves. I can imagine it would be hard to control the impulse to use when this drug is messing with your head.
The CBD is a great solution as well as the iron - gentle iron taken on empty stomach in evening and no other iron taken earlier say in a multivitamin as it will impair the uptake of the gentle iron.
I didn't have problems with alcohol while on pramipexole (mirapex) but would not be REMOTELY surprised if it contributed to the compulsion to drink in the same way as it can cause other forms of compulsive behaviour. I gained weight slowly over the years I was on it and found it extremely difficult to control my eating (I had never found this previously) especially of sweety rubbish. It was an overwhelming craving and when I ate the bad stuff I got a massive dopamine-like surge from it. Like you, as soon as I stopped mirapex, I found it much, much easier to control my appetite and avoid the bad foods. Although I gained weight on Lyrica, it was more of an overall increase in appetite thing and felt less toxic.
