Ok now I know for sure there is a correlation between reflux meds pepcid a.c. and tums. Had a bad bout yesterday, took some heartburn meds and ended up with break through RLS all night. Ughhh. Body aches today. Exhausted. Back to bicarb. And restricted diet.
Hoping all of you have a grand day.😎

I have ulcers and gastric reflux. The key to taking antacids in any context with any other meds, is to take them a few hrs before or after the other meds. The antacids break the acid down in your stomach, but they also break down anything else that is in your stomach. Therefore, the other meds you are taking will not work as well. I have figured out a schedule, so it does not bother me.
I also suffer with acid reflux, generally brought on by certain foods.
My doctor has prescribed me Omaprazole which works for me and doesn't seem to worsen my RLS.
They decrease the amount of acid produced in the stomach. I've been taking them for several years now. Although I should take every day, I take one and it seems to settle my stomach for days.
I take pepcid ac...no can do the proton pump inhibitors...headaches...but I found out on this thread that our relic meds and antacids can interfere with pur dopamine...
And last night was my proof. I had stopped them then had a horrible reflux bout..took my pepcid and later tums and bam...break through RLS all night. Sheesh. Back to bicarb today and better diet. Ty for sharing. Reflux sux too. Pffft
I can't believe half the world (or more, if you look at drug store displays) has too much stomach acid! The problem is probably too LITTLE stomach acid. I used Apple Cider Vinegar and HCL with Pepsin supplements for acid reflux and never looked back. articles.mercola.com/sites/...
Heard about this but never dared try it because the pain has been agonising, like being run through with a red hot poker with no relief from the meds for up to 3 hours.
Oh oh I tried the vinegar...came right back up. HGL didnt touch it. Horrible. I have barrets esophagus...i have had awful reflux since a I little pip. Diet and weight control help. I tried enzymes...worse. I was tested for all sorts. Histamine intolerance diet is a good one for me but very restrictive. Ty DC...always like your posts. Good to see other things working for peeps.
I am in the uk and have had a severe bout of acid reflux since last December and only just coming out of it now. Could only drink water, milk or camomile tea, no fruit, sauces of any kind, spices, tomatoes, chocolate, fatty food, cakes etc. Some meds give me worsened rls, particularly Lansoprazole and to some degree Ranitidine. I had no rls with Omeprazole but felt unwell the whole time. It helped me to take 375 mg magnesium, and iron included in multivitamins, with my evening meal. This has greatly reduced the rls and thankfully I can now drink decaf tea and some of the less acid fruit.
You nay have tried magnesium already but thought I'd say what has helped me anyway. Hope you feel better soon.
I'm going to up my magnesium. Have the threats type and citrate. I forget to take citrate at night lol.
I know. Sometimes this reflux is crazy. Even water will start things rolling. Felt better yesterday. Have you noticed that if you're fighting off a big it will really ramp up the reflux😯?
I've tried zinc but my vitamin already has a hefty dose.
I too like omeprazole . I was on it for 2 years. Worked a treat. Then my Dr left and I had to switch Drs. New Doc freaked out and said I could not be omeprazole for so long. It was not safe. So she weaned me off of it. Now I am dealing with reflux again. Someone on this group suggested "Lane Labs Nature's Lining" it is a natural supplement made up of zinc and L-camosine. I paid us$24 for 60 tabs on Amazon. I chew one small tab about an hour before bed and reflux is calmed. Not always. I still keep a battery of the "bad" stuff to calm a noisy stomach.
Hi again One. I believe I am the one that recommended zinc carnosine for heartburn. The "original papaya enzyme" is good as well. If you are taking iron try to avoid taking zinc at same time. Be well always.
