What meds are you on. All of them -- including doses.? Then we might be able to help😀
Cheers.
I'm on Thyroxine, a statin, calcium channel blockers and water tabs (The last two for high blood pressure)
Well ok you have rls has anyone told you you have,if so what did your doc recommend,I can tell you rls will not go by running up and down stairs for a jam sandwich , please tell us what your doc said then someone will help you
Legs run in my family too, well they walk skip and run
Try going up and down the stairs on your tip-toes slowly and avoid the kitchen on the turn around!!
Welcome.
I've diagnosed myself with restless legs. My husband videoed my legs when the problem became chronic some years back, just so I could observe the frequency of the movements.
I've only seen my doc once about RLS and he was reluctant to prescribe any other meds so I haven't been back. I'm a bit worried about trying dopamine. Really I'm looking for alternatives.
Have just had a Nutella sandwich. It's 4.30am and I haven't managed to drop off yet.
Hi
I suffered from RLS for many years trying sprays, creams etc. No meds.
I take magnesium supplements and a multi vitamin daily.
Last winter, due to a toe issue I stopped having polish applied when having a pedicure. I can’t explain the science behind it, but all I know is my RLS disappeared. I went polish free all summer and it was bliss to be free of those late nights walking around my apartment, exhausted, applying ice packs to my legs to get some relief. I decided to have my toe nails painted last weekend and within 24hrs myRLS had returned. It may be worth trying.
Am determined to stop nocturnal noshing!!!!!
Get your iron levels checked at the GP. Get the actual figure for your serum ferritin (not just that you are ‘normal’). Many people find that raising serum ferritin to over 100 helps their legs and it tends to be the first line of treatment by experts now.
Appplying cold water, rubbing magnesium oil on legs, drinking a small cup of coffee, solpadeine (the codeine is the important part), emptying the bladder/bowels when symptoms strike, compression stockings, avoiding triggers such as benedryl (in some cough meds), anti-histamines, Zantac, ice-cream, too much sugar, too many refined carbohydrates. All these are tips that work for some people. 20 minutes or so of a very diverting activity such as a computer game (not reading or tv - they don’t work) can give a couple of hours of peace. There are loads of tips dotted through the forum - well worth scanning through. I hope you find something that works for you. I have not seen anyone who gets relief from eating in the middle of the night (except for coffee) but it does pass the time.
